I need to try on some more helmets. Tried some on sunday, but would like some more selection and to feel less like I'm holding up a line.

Suggestions on dealers in North/Central that have good selection of good-ish helmets?

I did Engineer on my Multi on Pirelli Scorpion Trails. The guy I was with had Michelin Pilot Road 3s on his.

Don't know what kind of bike you ride but go to Motosports and try on those new FLY helmets they have in stock.

Pretty nice!!

Yep, the Fly helmets at a good deal. You could also try Struthers Brothers for some Shoei helmets. I never buy anything at Struthers Brothers, though. Full retail price is the only price you'll find there. The last time I bought a helmet, I tried on at Struthers and bought on eBay. You could also try Fender Cycle on the south side (near MotoSports). They have some different stuff.

mostly street, occasional gravel. I'm wearing an HJC flip-up now, but it's getting a little old. I bought it because at the time both my Dad and the guy at work I ride with most often were wearing one and theirs fit OK. I figured I'd look at some other brands, and maybe try a regular full-face style.

Last time I was at Adams Cycles in Nevada they had some, but I was there to get a tire changed, and wasn't really paying attention to what they had.

Last week I purchased a jacket, pants, and a Shorai battery from dealers in the Des Moines area, at substantially lower prices then I could find on the internet.

Maybe if you got to know one of the parts managers and actually bought something you could get a better deal. Most of the dealerships know what they are up against with the internet and will give you a better price if you ask.

If you don't support your local dealerships you won't have a place to try on stuff.

Oh, I do. I buy all my KTM parts from MotoSports even though I could buy online for that very reason. But I'm not going to spend $420 on a helmet locally when I can buy the same thing online for $279.

Momma didn't raise no dumb fool.

Which dealers? I bought all 3 of my bikes off craigslist, and I'm an hour away, so I don't get into the Des Moines dealers very much. I only know where Fender's is because it's across the road from Harbor Freight . Of course it doesn't help that 2 of the 3 are HD. There is a decent independent shop here in marshalltown, but they almost exclusively do work on bikes. they can order gear, but don't have anything to try on.

Brad,

I am going to play the devil's advocate here...but Struthers Brothers has been awesome to us. They have matched prices for us on: 1 helmet, fender eliminator kit, rearstand spools, seat cowl and slip-on.
The windscreen they weren't able to get and subsequently couldn't price match.
And they sold me my latest helmet at dealer cost (~$100 off).
Granted, we just bought a bike from them and all but it never hurts to ask. All they can do is say, No.

I have to work on Friday but tomorrow, the wife and I are going to follow the DSM river down most of the way to the Mississippi and then head south into NE Missouri then back up the Mississippi and then back towards home some way.
Anyone is welcome to tag along from central Iowa...if anyone is interested, we can arrange a meet up.
