On the top pic, that's a 14mm lens on an APS-C camera, making it a 21mm equivalent lens. I turned the camera up on edge and shot about 5 frames. It was then pieced together in Photoshop. :). The bottom is just a straight shot through the 14mm. The camera is a Fuji X-Pro1.

So- just to clarify, if I go to Lakeview or Rathbun OHV parks with a street licensed bike, do I still need the OHV sticker?

My wife is wanting to start taking her TW200 trail riding and those are the only 2 places I know of near to us. I've never been to either of them. Are they someplace that a novice can go slow and steady without being bombed by quads and MX bikes going 50 mph?

Thanks

just got back from a trip to wyoming, here's a thought, don't do that in late july. holy smokes was it hot, had to fill the camelbak at every stop. yellowstone was loaded with people, i though it may be tolerable if there on a monday,.. nope. never again.

bear tooth pass made the whole trip worth while, what a road

a little break before the top, which was pretty interesting with rain and high winds, loved it.

You definitely need an OHV sticker even if its licensed for the street.

Not familiar with Rathburn, been to Solon once. When I was there no issues with anyone flying around too fast.

If Solon isn't too far away, there is Waterloo too. Been there quite a few times. Plenty of easy trails for a beginner there, and big enough shouldn't get bothered too much.

Place to leave a vehicle

I'm coming out to Iowa early next week to work on a new dual sport route I'm building.

Would like to trailer my bike out and leave my van and trailer someplace in SE or SC Iowa for 10 days to 2 weeks.

I have the route across northern IA now, but at the suggestion of Ed Stoll I'm moving it to southern Iowa.

So if anybody is willing to let me park someplace or know of someplace where I can leave my van and trailer please PM me.

The extra 500 miles on both ends is just a little more than I feel like dealing with at the moment.....

Another Iwegian chimes in

Ride from Mechanicsville Iowa, (26 miles east of Cedar Rapids). Mainly ride Moto Guzzi but am looking for an off road capable bike. Already have a few bikes, hopefully the wife won't notice another one in the garage.

Looks like at least 9 big bikes in there. WOW.
You need to consolidate down to one Super Tenere.

Thanks all for the reply's

I've had several offers from inmates of a place to leave my van, thanks to all that have replied.

When I get this segment of my route done, I'll post it up on here for whoever would like to ride it.

The western end is posted on GPSxchange - 'The Northern Route - Western End'

I'm in talks with 9 Dave to post it here, but just the western end - Anacosta Washington to Glacier Montana is almost 3mb - too big for normal posting. We're working on it.....

It's intended to be a return route to the TransAmTrail.... similar length, scope, and difficulty.

Not to steal StormTruck2's thunder (man, what a collection! I showed it to my wife, just to let her know how lucky she was) -- but I'm thinking of a trip to Loess Hills/extreme West Iowa this coming week. Riding F800GS. Any recommendations on roads, sights, cheap but bug-free motels? Prefer to ride gravel, so any off-the-beaten-path route suggestions welcomed.
