The following day (fathers day) Casey and I returned to Mt. Evans properly equipped with imaging devices

We made a loop on 103 and then rode the autoroad up Mt. Evans. 14,260 feet elevation!

The following weekend I had a work bbq on saturday which cut in to riding a bit, but we still got out for a nice street ride Saturday evening. I don't think I took any pics, but we rode south from Craigs place along the base of a mountain ridge on some scenic roads. We also stopped at this cool little pub where all meats are served raw and you cook them yourself on this huge grill. Pretty cool

This was our route

The folling day Duken, his friend Jim and I went dirt riding at Captain Jack's which had some of the sweetest singletrack I think I've ever seen

We came accross this cool old cabin left over from the gold rush or something. It looked quite well built.:pirate

Can you spot the DRZ?

There was a modern version of the impaler from Apocalyptico

Both Duken and I ended up slightly impaled, but being tough dirt bikers we pried ourselves off the midevil device, plugged up the holes with quicksteal, ductape and a bit of safetywire and were on our way

And my favorite section

On June 26th, my birthday, Bimati, Duken (both from tlzone.net) and I went for a dandy after-work street ride, I didn't have my camera with me, but it was good fun. We rode some nice twisties, had dinner in Golden I think it was, then made our way back down to Denver

This was our route

Then two days later swademaster (also from tlzone) and I went for a ride. He laid out an excellent route

These guys must have been in extremely good shape to tow that car up the mountain!

Then 4th of July Weekend I rode down to visit my granddad in Silverton TX. Round trip was pushing 1k miles. I left after work on Thurs, got back Sunday evening.

Naturally, my granddad and I "played airplanes" and ate way too much good food.

The instructor and I flew over the palo duro canyon which was pretty cool.

We took off from Amarillo International because his plane was there for the week (no instructors in Silverton). Used the same runway as the heavy iron. I must say, a run way a couple miles long and 300' wide makes landings easy as pie. I landed the plane myself just as smoothly as you please

There were lots of cool planes in the hangar. Like this Lancair IV-P powered by a turbocharged corvette motor converted for aircraft use. (above).

The one below is also a IV-P and its powered by a TSIO550 as you can see. Also quite a fine motor. This one is owned by a doctor who landed gear up. The A&P who's building the first IV-P is repairing the doctor's plane.

No hanger would be complete without a WWII bird. This PT (aka T-6 with fixed gear) was a beautyrool

Just what everyone needs, their own personal Mig-15!

On the way back to Denver from Silverton I noted this little calf on the wrong side of the fence. It was a desolate area with no humans or water within probably 20 miles of the little fellow. I tried to put him though the gate, but couldn't catch him and didn't wanna leave the gate open and chase him though for fear that others may escape. I called my granny-b who knows everyone in west Texas and she had the local sheriff sort out who's calf it was and notify them.

A forced detour due to road construction and a surprisingly long distance between gas stations pushed my fuel range to the limit. The tank holds 5.0 gallons

There were scatted storms along the whole route down and back. For the most part they were an appreciated, natural form of air conditioning

It was my last week in Denver and I still hadn't ridden Pikes Peak. Also, I hadn't yet visited a friend and former co-worker who now lives in the Springs because he'd been gone on travel but was now back. I decided to sneak out of work a little early, ride up Pikes Peak then make my way over to his place for dinner. Of course I didn't wanna blow down I-25 the whole way so I put together a fun twisty route to get to Pikes Peak. It turned out really nice, I'd recommend it to any of the Denver folks headed that way. Minimal traffic, no cops and lots of twisties. Not quite as good as some of the mountain riding we did, but still quite nice.

Here's the route I took. Note the western half is the fun bit. I just took I-25 to get home because I left my friend's place well after dark and wanted to get home quickly while minimizing chances of meeting a deer.

According to the guy at the gate at the bottom of the hill it had just rained and "was probably too muccy for a bike to make it", to his surprise I paid my money and said I'd go as far as I could It really wasn't all that bad, this was the worst of it and I rode though without incident.

Back at Casey's, the bike was dirty, but did wonderfully. The Avon storms even performed better than expected in the dirt

Now, some more RR

Having ridden Pikes Peak I was satisfied and able to tear myself away from Denver to return the bike to my dad in FL and fly back to Cambridge where the lovely Pilette and the second half of my summer employment awaited.

I left Denver at 4:20am and met fellow inmate Promo Yeti aka Alan Advrider in Hot Springs SD for breakfast around 9:45 I think.

The route for the day was this. Alan did all the Blackhills route work and did an amazing job of it His KTM looked super sweet too!

For breakfast I wanted something sorta light as I had a lot of riding to do. I ordered two pancakes. Little did I know these were HUGE pancakes and I couldn't even finish the two of them!
