I was at the dealer today to pick up some parts I'd ordered. I asked the service folks to check the stand. They immediately agreed it leaned too much and looked at the stand, examined it and measured the stand in comparison with an F650GS.

The F800GS has a 13" long kickstand. The F650GS has an 11" long kickstand. Mine has the correct one.

The stand is bent normally (ie, not one straight line). However, above the bend, it should be straight and mine is slightly S shaped. Since this bend it up high, it makes a big difference way down at the other end of the stand.

The edge of the base is scraped a little, it happens sometimes in turns. But the force it would require to bend the stand would be much more I think. They're ordering a replacement stand.

Good luck with the replacement stand. I've had a center stand on order since the 1st of November. When asked what the reasons for the delay were I've gotten several explanations but I don't feel convinced my dealer knows or BMW Germany is telling. I hope this isn't representative of what we can expect in the near future should more important parts be needed.

Fortunately this stand looks like it'll hold out fine until the replacement arrives.

Marty, has your beast arrived yet? I'd like to see that 19" fitted to see how it looks and feels.

Well, my bike is officially broken in at this point!

So we plan a ride from Phoenix to Young through the mountains ... it turned into quite an adventure!

This was the official "brake in" crash.

And a few more in the snow and ice ...

It was quite a day. Not exactly what we were expecting in AZ!

Finally made it to Young! No time to sit down and eat so it's two Payday bars and another 150 miles of mostly dirt home ...

DG - gutsy ride!

think these would have saved the rad mounts?

also, Touratrinket sells a shift lever with a folding tip - might help

Yep!

Ya, I'm surprised they left this area so exposed. I guess I'm used to dirt bikes though. The other thing that surprised me was how much mud was caked on the front of the motor up really high. Enough that it didn't hose off. I was breaking chunks off with a screwdriver. It could use one of those front fender extender things too. I never had a problem with mud packing up in the fender though.

San Diego "artsy" pic

Snapped this on Honey Springs road near Jamul, after a pleasant dirt road ride called "Mother Grundy Truck Trail." (no kidding).

Cheers, KLR
