When you get to the end of Misery you take a right on the dirt road and then left on dirt road for about a mile and red arrows duck into the woods on your right. That used to be hard to find but I think it is now marked better. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. It's been a while since I been in there between the shoulder and riding local.

Was looking to ride Pachaug this Sun if we found a guide, but I just saw on the news that it's not open due to EEE aka Equine encephalitis. Anyone know for sure if this is true.

Day use of this part of Pachaug State Forest for hiking and other recreational activities will still be allowed. Signs will be posted by DEEP staff advising visitors of the presence of EEE in the area and precautions that should be taken to avoid being bitten by mosquitoes.

I was going to go until my wife read up on the EEE and how all 300 mosquitoes caught tested pos for EEE. So, to avoid a fight, I'm going to stay home and ride local. They are saying its the worst outbreak in CT ever.

What are the symptoms of EEE?
Most people infected with EEE virus do not become ill. Other symptoms include high fever, fatigue, muscle aches, neck stiffness, tremors, or confusion.

Hell, I already have most of those conditions. Never the less, I'll be using lots of repellent and not standing in one place for very long.

In the United States, approximately 5-10 EEE cases are reported annually. Five human cases have been reported in New York State: one each in 1971, 1983, 2009, 2010 and 2011. All were fatal.
The report on the news said there was a 30% survival rate and of those 30%, 100% have brain damage.

Hose yourselves down with bug spray and never stop, lol !!!

Maybe the brain damage was a preexisting condition...you know, like those stupid enough to go riding in an EEE infested area in the first place?

Whadda ya think EEE wasn't out there before they found it? Don't be nave. All you people hanging around at your C-N-R's were way more at risk than a few old guys blasting thru the woods for a 4 1/2(long story) hours on a rainy day.

It's an all new disease. I'm never riding again!
