Rear Tire on Front
Not sure if this is the right forum or not. Mods, you can move itif you want. The wife has learned to ride on a Honda Ascot and loves the bike. She doesn't feel real comfy riding it on gravel roads with the street tires (especially after her encounter with a gravel shoulder on a 90 degree bend)... she now has a new set of pro tapers on the bike.
Around us we have great gravel roads for riding so I was thinking about a set of d/s tires for her bike. The very limiting factor is the 18" rims. I can find a proper size kenda 270 but they would both be rear tires. Would this be ok for handling etc.? I don't want to kill her, or worse maime her. It was scary looking into my mirror and seeing her go down on the side of the road...don't want that to happen again. Thanks in advance Chef

PM Geek about tires for his "Loser", an Ascot VT500. He called it scary, I think. Or search in the Rockies Forum for threads about the Loser, like this one.

Thanks, read all the threads... It wouldn't be knobbies but a more d/s tire.

Being skittish as she is, I wouldn't be putting K270s on it, specially the front. The 270 front, like was said in other posts, is downright scary. The GP1 however is a great dualsport tire. Looks exactly like the 270 but is a different compound and the tread depth is not as deep as the 270.

Difficulty is finding a 3.5-18 Front and a 4.5-18 rear. Shinko has a 244 in that size ... any thoughts?

If you use a front tire on the rear or a rear tire on the front mount it backwards if it has directional tread. When you end up the "V" should point toward the rider.

You may find this thread to be of some use. The Patman likes meat on the front.
http://klrworld.com/forums/index.php/topic,6.0.html Kings KT966 is what is on the bike on page 2. Nice ... I think.
