Dr Pepper in Radiator
My Airstream motor home with a Chevy 454 is running marginally hot. (new thermostat, new guage) I think the tubes are clogged.
Dr Pepper has lactic acid in it. Coca Cola has phosphoric acid in it. I'm thinking of putting one or the other in the radiator to dissolve the deposits. I think that anything else would be to harsh. Worth a try or waste of time? |

Drink the Dr Pepper and use a couple ounces of Sani-flush toilet cleaner.
That stuff has been cleaning radiators for close to 100 years.

I bet the sugar will gum it up more than any good you will do. Why not use a traditional radiator flush?

Sugar carmelizes when it gets hot, you're putting it where it gets hot.
Why on gods green earth would you think of dr. pepper before you thought of the myriad of other cleaning agents in the world? |

Waste of time. My father had a radiator shop and the acid he used ( i've forgotten the name) was some nasty stuff that you'd never drink. A new radiator is prolly only 150 or so.

So that is why every garage has a drink machine in it.
Bet it won't hurt a thing, so long as the head does not leak. I do think you will get a better flush using somthing stronger...I don't mean Jack Daniels and coke! Sani Flush really does work well and it is cheaper then other radiator flushes.

Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 99-06-02-012C (Section 06 -- Engine). Condition Some customers may comment that the heater is inoperative, blows cold air, engine may exhibit an overheat condition or the coolant reservoir has rust in it. Cause Vehicles equipped with DEX-COOLŽ coolant, which may have been operated for extended periods of time with a low coolant level, usually in excess of 32,000 km (20,000 mi), may be susceptible to the formation of a rust-like material in the cooling system. Correction Flush the cooling system using the repair procedures that follow. Parts and equipment required/suggested for this correction are listed below.
Important Verify the fuel level in the fuel tank. The fuel level should be above ? tank before this procedure is started. As a precaution, verify the oil level in the crankcase. Add the amount required to bring the oil level into the normal range. It is recommended the vehicle be placed in a position so that the following are available:
Due to the complexity of these procedures, the following repair steps must be strictly adhered to in order to achieve the intended results. Any deviation or substitution may result in sub-standard cleaning/flushing results or system damage. Diagnostic Procedure

Why the F try something off the wall when there are hundreds of radiator cleaners proven to work. Makes less than no sense to me even if you own stock in Dr. Pepper.

Sounds alot like my Guinness Torture on my R1150GSA.
Side note: Michelob Lite works much better than Guinness, Dos Equis, Coors, or Heini in a water cooled PC. Seriously! I knew Michelob was good for something coz it's certainly not on my top 10 beers to drink when Guinness is not avail.
