F650GS Twin: adjusting clutch cable freeplay ?
My girlfriend got herself a F650GS Twin and is loving it.
![]() I was checking things put before her first ride (chain slack, oil, coolant, brake fluid level, etc) and noticed that there is no adjustment for the clutch freeplay at the handlebar. There is an adjustment near the engine case, but it does not look like BMW intented it to be touched by the rider. Also, there is no mention of adjusting it in the owner's manual. The other bikes I had (Yamahas, Hondas, a F650GS single and the G650 Xmoto) all required ajusting the cable and explicitly mentioned it in the handbook (usually something like 1 mm). Does anybody know if the new twins have any sort of self-adjusting clutch ? |

FYYFF!
You'll get no help from any 650twin folks until we get ours! How does she like it? I'll be putting the tall windshield and handguards on. I'm already looking for aftermarket guards and luggage. That's even the color I'm getting!

I rode it myself for nearly 300 miles. Very nice engine, great sound, great finish. I'm 6'0" tall and usually have trouble with smaller bikes but did not feel cramped on it. Keeps up very nicely with my 1200 GSA. But you probably already tired of hearing this ... Quote:

Conrado-This will probably get moved to the F800GS/F650GS thread, but...
I think if cable adjustments need to be made from break-in cable stretch, your dealer should do it. They should at least be able to give you instruction on doing it yourself. What are you guys doing about luggage and engine/body panel guards? I know some of the manufacturers have stuff in their plans, but my understanding is that they don't even have bikes to do mock-ups on yet. I'm sure BMW has stuff out already, but I want to put Pelican cases on the sides. Not sure what I'm going to do about a top case yet. Rob
