Santa Barbara, PCH and three days to ride

For the past couple months, i'd been planning on going to the WMRS trip, but a week before that trip, I got word from my work that they needed me to do some computer maintenance at one of our retail stores in Santa Barbara on the day was going to leave for Bishop.

Hmmm...ok, how about i do a ride, but just change my destination and add a passenger (the lovely mrs monkeytrick)? I then plan and research the coastal regions in and around Santa Barbara and as far east as the Sierras and Kernville. With a little help from Eatpasta and Richard Cabesa, i tallied some maps in my GPS.

FRIDAY AUG 1ST:

In the early pre-dawn morning, we load up....

IHOP breakfast....

After a few hours of work, i was able to wrap it up and let the vacation truly begin. There just happened to be a festival going on in Santa Barbara. This parade was on State St....

625 State St. Volcom Santa Barbara....

No real agenda aside from us having to be home in three days. We decide to start our journey with some Hwy 154....

Cold Springs Tavern....

Jump back onto Hwy 154....

Now that we have our evening lodgings in order, time to do some mapping/drinking....

The view....

Over to AJ Spurs for some grub....

Who gets the job of stuffing the ram sack?....

The entertainment. Good mix of 70's rock....

Ok....not a lot of "riding" pics in day one, but i promise more for the next two days. More to come.....it gets better.

Yep....she's got gloves, must've took em off to snap the pics.
Maybe we need to get her the fingertipless kind (action gloves), for when she's in photo mode....

Thanks !

Last time I saw Mrs. MT, she had atleast one finger that wouldn't fit into a glove!

Great Report, Thanks MT.

I think you're referring to this incident. And yes, she had gloves on!

Your bound to come home with some scars after a Riceless ride....whether they're on your bike or your body! Good times indeed!

SATURDAY AUG 2:

Day two, packing up the beast for a long day of riding....

Heading northbound....

Hey, a restaurant called "Cool Hand Luke's". We didnt go there, but i love that movie ....

Heading change. Eastward bound....

Hwy 166 is a fun road....

We ride the 50'ish miles and stop for lunch at the Burger Barn in New Cuyama....

They have picures on their menu, and this looked too good to pass up....

This....

Leads to this....

Next came for decision time. It was getting pretty hot out here. We were originally thinking of heading out to the sierras via Kernille as you all know there's endless great riding out there. But, it was too nice by the coast, so we decide to head west and aim for PCH....

Good thing too, cuz i wanted to explore a dirt turnoff I had seen off the 166....

We stop at a bluff about 5-6miles in. I wonder how my inmate pals are doing at WMRS over there ....

Wait, what is that I see....

Ahhh yes, the beer section. I've never seen Budweiser & Clamato in the same can....

We stumble upon this road that led to an entrance Oceana Dunes. We stop to take a break....

Snacks....

Shhhh....

This yellow bi-plane which had the word RIDES painted in black across the bottom wing started sputtering then immediately turned and headed back towards the airport nearby and was never heard from again (that day). Didnt see any smoke though....

The PCH tour southbound begins here in Oceana. Some great piece of road....

We almost bought this 20ft metal dinosaur, but just couldnt seem to fit it in the cases....

This place looked and smelled really good, but it wasnt dinner time yet....

Guadelupe....

Tonights Lodgings in Lompoc....

We heard this guy pull up....

First there was one....

Then more....

Then more....

So we had to get a closer look....

We met the owners. Fidel and his wife own a restaurant in Riverside, Ca and said if we (ADV) ever had a "rally", we could stop there for free appetizers. Not bad, right? They were nice folks....

The wierdest thing was when we partied at Club Carrows. Yep, Carrow's Restaurant. Did I mention there was a club inside Carrow's? Hmmm...Well, Victor the DJ was cool and there was some funny kareoke moments....

And yes, they even had a smoke machine. Classic....

Several rounds of ice cold adult beverages and one round of some insane peach cobbler, and it was time to stumble back to the room. That concludes Day 2.

Stay tuned for tomorrows chapter, which includes....Mulholland Cyn, a WWII Air Museum, bon zai trees, chile verde omelettes and some twisties.

Please tell me you bought and ate some real Santa Maria Tri-Tip when you were in the Vandenberg area.

I hope you guys rode Hwy 33 / Hwy 150 and Lockwood Valley road.

MT, thanks for sharing.

The RustyPig is on your righthand side heading southbound on PCH just south of Oceana. Once I download my GPS route, I'll send you the cross steet and coordinates. It smelled really good and it'll be on my list of food stops next time I'm in the area!!!

Hwy 33 / Hwy 150 were recommended by Eatpasta and we really wanted to hit that, but there wasnt enough time to hit it all. Those roads are definately on my list for my next northerly trip.

I was unaware of the Santa Maria Tri-tip scene, but i'll note that for next time. I like food.
