Couple killed when motorcycle flies into canyon. (NM)
DIXON, N. M. (KRQE) - A Velarde couple died sometime Sunday night when their motorcycle slid off State Route 75 and down a steep, rocky embankment. The mother of one of the victims found the bodies and motorcycle at the bottom of deep ravine near the Taos-Rio Arriba county line. Chris and Connie Reynolds were near Dixon just a few miles from home when they crashed and fell about 200 feet.
Taos county sheriff's investigators say the couple went to a bike rally this past weekend in Pueblo, Colo. They were last seen at 5 p.m. Sunday in Peñasco. When they didn't come home, Connie's mother went searching for them. She found their bodies this morning. Family members watched investigators try to piece together what caused the crash. They believe speed may have been a factor but added they will also be waiting for toxicology reports which could take weeks. Chris Reynolds was 43; his wife 38. They leave behind 11- and 9-year-old sons. Taos County investigators are asking anyone who saw the Reynolds or know anything about the accident call them at 575-758-3361. RIP.
Dunno if they really "flew". Maybe more like slid. Dead either way. Not a good spot to go off, for sure.

That's a sad story, for sure. It's bad enough to see riders get killed, but leaving behind young children makes it even worse.
I don't have kids (or a wife, for that matter), but If I did, I would seriously rethink my lifestyle. It's upsetting to think about, but I'm not sure i could justify riding if I had a couple of kids at home depending on me. Seems even worse to have BOTH parents on the same bike. That's really upping the antey to a level I'm uncomfortable with. R.I.P. and my best wishes to those who survive the riders. Poor kids...

I agree that you can't let fear control your life, but I don't quite think that a life insurance check is a substitute for a roll model and parent. A 9 and 11 year old still have a lot of growing up to do. I'm not saying parents shouldn't ride -- far from it. The story just brought out this emotion I didn't really know I had, and got me thinking. I just hate it for those kids. I'll be especially dissapointed if the toxicology report comes back indicating anything other than stone cold sober. Riding is taking an elevated risk. Drinking and riding, when you've got kids, is neglecting your most important responsabilities. |

Could be something as innocuous as simply falling asleep. I thinking speculating with this little information is pointless.

Wow sad news...there are some curves on the stretch between Penasco and Dixon, but nothing really, really sharp...my condolences to the families.

That's the first thing I thought of. I used to fall asleep on the back of the GS all the time. Now with the new bike I can't - which is a good thing. |

I do know after watching the video that that is the oldest anchorman I have ever seen. He could be Steve Martin's grandfather.
