Ready...but yet not ready

I've got the bike BMW R1200GSA '06. Now I just want to go out and have a bloody adventure but I have no idea where to go and what to take. I've seen the threads that talk about how their bikes are setup but what would you recommend to a n00b adventurer? What should I pak? What can't you do without?

Also, I'm in canberra (yes I work for the Government ) anyone know of some good places to ride too and camp in NSW region?

Anyone going out for a weekend soon and doesn't mind a n00b trailing along?

Cheers

howdy welcome and all.

looking a the list of toys you've got i'm a bit surprised you're asking this question.

from canberra spin the bottle and hope it points pretty much any direction except north.

whatever you think you need to carry lose half of it straight away.

the only thing you cannot do without is some form of money, the rest of it you can cope with along the way which becomes an adventure in itself.

paging rossco, silla et al!

You mean toys I used to have. I'm only allowed one bike at a time

The GS is the biggest bike I've owned and I'm looking forward to getting out and away from home as well for a while .

I realise I'll need to pack light. just have to work out what's important and what's not.

Thrashers Terrifying Trek TTT in a couple of weekends time should be just the ticket.

Short but interesting ride, meet a lot of people, have some drinks, a few explosions and go home the next day.

BTW, what's your riding experience?

I'm a trail biker from way back, but the GS is a different ball game all together. I think I'd have to take a few steps back and start real easy for the first couple of trips.

Beer: Did someone say beer?

The first thing you have to do is drop the GS.

Once it has the first scratch it's yours, then and only then you can enjoy it.

drop it going up a hill. that way, when you drag it around scraping the whole way, a little thing dies inside, and once it's dead, freedom comes

tom, dave, pete, fish or any one of the 30 or so locals should be having a go in between then and now.

Try gravelsurfers in yahoo groups too. Lots of local big chook riders there.
