I grew up just down the road from there in Staunton, and always drove past there to go hunting and fishing. One day about 10-11 years ago, me and two of my buddies were out riding around on the dirt roads in the area after a fruitless morning of hunting during muzzleloading season. I was driving a little too fast and bottomed out on a large rock in the road. Didn't think too much about it. About 20 minutes later, I looked down and realized that I had lost almost half a tank of gas and only had just over a 1/4 tank left.

Not wanting to get stranded in the woods, I stomped on the loud pedal (truck had no muffler) and careened that damn truck thru the woods at a pace that would make Roger Mears' ass eat a seat cushion. I'm talking full-on Baja, as fast as that little truck would go. After about 10 minutes of the three of us bouncing and screaming our way thru the woods (laughing our asses off the whole time), I finally broke out onto the pavement just down the street from that store. I ran out of gas and literally coasted to a stop in front of the building.

They were kind enough to let me leave the truck there for a few days so I could get my paws on a new tank, and then they let me swap out the tanks and fix everything up in their parking lot. I've still got the hat that I bought there that day while waiting for a ride.

I had forgotten all about it till I saw that pic. Thanks for kick-starting that memory!!

I finally grabbed a couple of my "neighborhood" store.

I've got to go back and get more now though, as it's just been repainted.

Took this picture yesterday as a buddy and I stopped in to get a late breakfast on our way to the Marlinton, WV area. They have a great restaurant in the back and they make a mean BLT

Batesville General Store on GA route 197. I took a ride up to Lake Seed in North GA yesterday. A popular stop for bikers and tourists to stretch their legs and sip a cold soda.
