What do you like less?

Say you're going for a decent length ride. Couple of hundred miles. What do you like less? I hate the wind, but the cold stopped me tonight.

Sub freezing temps turn the roads icy. When that happens, game over. Windy? Inconvenient but you can deal with it. Keep in mind that we've got the Columbia River Gorge up here that is perpetually windy. Riding around there makes riding feel more like tacking a sailboat - you have to lean into the wind and watch passing obstacles that will cut the flow of wind that you're leaning into.

man I hear that.
I am dead tired right now just got home and shit it has been cold since west memphis. (I live north of chicago) I had the widder heated vest and gloves all the way up, but I am still shivering now in bed reading advrider under two blankets. maybe I should go look at toxic britney to warm up. I just looked, currently 20 degrees no wonder it seemed painfully cold after having been in mexico the day before.

Both wind and cold fatigue the rider. Getting hypothermic has to be far worse, though. That affects your thought process much more. Makes it that much more difficult to function properly on the bike.

My problem with cold is that there is always some spot that gets wind I can't seem to seal off. My helmet lets enough wind in around the face shield to supercool my cheeks just under my eyes. At twenty degrees, I don't think it would take too long to get frostbite there.

The 4 days like this on my trip I pull into the hotel, turn up the heater thing to full blast, and get under all the covers with my clothes on. Usually a few hours later I wake up and am warm enough to turn down the heat.

It's worth it to get somewhere warm for some fun riding. Next year I'm switching to Gerbing.

Lately we've had a lot of nasty winds making it a STRUGGLE to stay safe even with the wide bars. My neck was sore for days afterwards due to the helmet bobbing around, and with arthritis in my neck, spine, etc. it's painful.

I can handle cold okay, but granted, around here the lowest I've had to commute in is around 10 deg F. (ambient temp). Should be 15-20 on the way to work tomorrow. No biggie compared to the northern states and their sub-zero temps.

What I hate is cold rain--temps around 35-45, big fat drops everywhere, cagers driving like idiots, shield fogging. First the fingertips soak through, then the toes...then the first cold droplet finds its way down my back....eeeuuuuwww.

Bluhduh Cold?? HAHA

Sorry, I never ridden in the cold unless 45 F counts but I don't think it will.
Living in South Florida does have it's merrits as we can ride all year long. There are two problems we have though: NO TWISTIES ANYWHERE AND WIND LOTS OF WIND.
Not only do I have to ride in this $^!t but my work takes me on the water daily and 30 MPH on a 16 Ft skiff is a bummer to say the least.
So I voted for wind: HATE IT

If it's only a few degrees below freezing, I'm more okay with that kind of cold than gusting wind. The cold keeps me awake and my metabolism is fast enough to keep me going. High gusty wind just takes the fun out of riding.

Going across Saskatchewan last summer I encountered about 4 hours of +1C and constant rain. I was running the GS hard and the RID temp guage was at 3 bars. That sure kept me on my toes, especially when the sun went down and the rain got really heavy. I had only the stock GS lights. I was running blind. I liked that more than going through Manitoba with the the pounding gusts of wind that tried to knock me into adjacent lanes.

Damn. I've spent hours in near freezing rain at 4 bars. I can't imagine what 3 bar weather is like.

I spent a few hours today in 30 degree weather at 7 bars. More on that when I write my "Fuck New York" rant tomorrow. I'm too hammered to do it now.
