IN if it's Nov 5,6,7 I stayed at stovepipe in Jan this year and it was a good place to camp close to the best rides but I don't care where we camp. I want to ride the DRZ not sure if I'm trailering or riding but I know
it will be fun.

Ben, you bring those killer coffee beans and I'll bring the coffemaker and generator! Depending on the hangover, it should be brewing by 6 a.m.

my 2 cents

The camaraderie around the campfire was a very cool aspect of the first one. In March when I went back we stayed at Panamint and the whole experience was different. Not as easy to just move in en-mass and take over a whole area for ourselves.
I totally agree with you Ben. The 1st nOOb was special, immediately we all bonded and the camaraderie was top. I guess being nOObs made us all feel equal, also, we all rode from Ridgecrest and spent lots of time together. Then camping on bikes, we were able to squeeze everyone in 3 or 4 campsites and that physically brought us together. Then we only have 1 camp fire and again everyone was cold and trying to get warm from a single source. Funny, we were mostly greenhorns and all looking up to anyone who can lead a ride. I think all the conditions were there.

Poor DaveBro, our trail leader, he lead ut through the heavy sand on the way to the Pinnacles but our bikes will not follow him.........hahahahahahahaha, he lead us again towards Beatty on the dirt road, including setting examples on how to crash...hahahahahaha

The March Ride was fun too, and I had a great time, and I won't compare it with the nOOb rally. The skill level and interest extremely varied on this one, and we were split into several groups and each group has a different ride in mind. Personally, hanging out with the big guns, it introduced me to a more challenging adventures and learned how to avoid flying rocks.

Gentlemen....I'd like to propose one other date. October 31st-November 2nd?

Also, I think we may change the base camp location to either Stovepipe or back to Furnace Creek. I was contemplating back country camping but the size of the group would need to be kept down.

Please share your thoughts.

Oct 31st is Halloween...spooooky! I think it will be fun and we get to out scare each other. Some guys may have parental duties that Friday though.

Stovepipe is probably the best if we plan to do more challenging trails. It's relatively close to Goler/Mengel and riding west to east is the way to traverse the canyons. Saline Valley and Darwin are not very far away.

Furnace Creek has it advantages too, closer to Titus, Beatty, Ryolite, etc.

I never camped at Stovepipe, but the location makes me think it is the place to be.

Stovepipe is actually closer, for some reason Furnace feels closer.

A good loop out of Stove is Scottys Castle, Ubehebe to the Racetrack, down Lippencott if you can handle it..or back to Teakettle, up thru Hidden Valley and out by way of South Pass...if you don't dawdle you can hang a right at Lee Flat and go over Cerro Gordo into Keeler and back to camp on pavement...if you're beat just take Saline Valley Rd out to pavement and back to camp. Aside from Lippencott all of that is easy peasy. KLR can make all of that on gas...less than 5 gallons and you'll be walking.
