We lost an Advrider yesterday (JWJ)

I didn't know him but I'm sure a few of you did. May he rest in peace.

Jebus, it sounds like he just sailed out into the Highway from a side road.

My condolences all around.

That's terrible. I made an unplanned run through a stop sign once too, but was luckier.

I was cruising an unfamiliar back road in rural Alabama at a rather sedate rate -- maybe 45 mph -- when I crested a rise...and not 40 ft over the hill I found a stop sign and an intersecting 4-lane highway. Whoops. I went through the intersection with front and rear ABS 'locked up'. It happened very fast, but, fortunately, ABS made the stop stable enough to be able to check for incoming traffic, and, more fortunately, there was none. Not sure what I could have done if someone had been coming.

I've since moved to Alabama, and believe me, I'm much more cautious about cresting hills than I was before (I recently found a loose cow over a crest).

Be careful.

Additional info...

Sounds like it was a terrible intersection...with known problems.

Damn, what a shame.

I ran a red once when seeing the left turn signal go green and mistaking it for my light. I was too busy planning my day's ride and not paying close enough attention. The left turning cager on the oncoming green arrow saw me and stopped - otherwise I probably would've hit him at 60mph. Stark reminder to ALWAYS be on your game.

RIP.

Is this an advrider or just a guy with a KTM?

Losing either is a tragedy, but what screen name did this guy use?

I rode with John a few times - He was JWJ here....I heard about the accident yesterday but did not realize it was him....he was a noob on here because he didn't post much but he rode a lot....They just installed a stop light at that intersection so I'm really wondering what the hell happened..( ooh - just read the article above....).....this has been one "effed" up summer.......my condolences to his family and close friends....

He told me a story about how he was riding down in Arkansas alone on his GS....he got stuck in some mud out on a lonely forest road...as he was wrestling his bike out of the mud, what he thought was a big black dog came over the hill. As it got closer he realized it was a bear about the same time the bear looked up and saw him......he said that bear high tailed it before he could even think of running. It was a good laugh...............RIP John

RIP adways

This sucks. RIP. Every time something like this happens, I realise that any time I ride it could be me. Scary and depressing thought.

My condolences to the family of the fallen rider. He sounds like he would have been a great guy to go riding with.
