sad

Sad to hear another rider lost. RIP....

From the articles, it sounds like he assumed the right of way, always a bad choice.

way too many of these lately.
here in central texas, from one 'riding club' - just a pickup bunch of weekenders - two deaths in about three weeks time. from what my friend tells me, both were cases of the biker running up under large trucks.

its easier than one might think to miss an intersection warning or stop or whatever. the terrain can block your view of the perpendicular slab and like 'all of a sudden' there it is. I skidded a 700lb roadstar out into a roadway just like that, and lived to tell about it. it really spooked me because its a road I AM familiar with..... i just flat missed it... mental error that could have been fatal.

did you read the post somebody made below the article?

sounds like some erroneous traffic lights involved.

in other words it may not be what it sounds like.

Yes, and then I went back in time two and a half hours to make a deliberately erroneous statement, all in an effort to draw you out.

I live very close in the area....these are new lights installed but flashing to let everyone get used to them....I do believe they were to go online this week....from reading the article it seems that there was confusion on whose lights were on red or yellow. This is a 2-lane road that Tee's into a 4 lane 55 mph road. John was pulling into the 4 lane road and must have read the signals wrong as others have implied in the artilce....it's such a shame and a tragic event.

Flashing lights can be a distraction from the actual traffic in some cases. Watch an intersection that is normally fine have a malfunction in the lights that makes them flash yellow and you will soon see that anything out of the normal makes people do crazy things because they are confused.
Large cost to pay though

My thoughts and prayers are with the family and freinds.

A set of lights that flash red in all directions should not be a issue. But, flashing red for trafic in one direction and yellow the other direction is just weird. If I was to come to a flashing red light I would assume it is a 4-way stop.
