Thanks. I was going to crop out the topbox, but I forgot to do it. That road was such a pearl on the ride. It was one of those things where I was heading back to Fresno and had one route in mind that I have done a dozen times, but then looked to my right and said, "huh, wonder where that one goes." Sometimes I feel sorry for the sport bikers.

Just because it's a zoo out there doesn't mean you have to view it from a cage!

Don't be an impulse buyer... afterall you have time..

And sometimes the light is just so odd, there isn't much you can do. From a ride a couple weeks ago...(nice little dirt road wiggling up the hill side)

I have not taken to time to do the calibration thing.

Nice pic man. I really want to come up and explore your area sometime. Great roads for sure. I drove through Oregon in a cage and made a note to self, "You need to come back here on two wheels."

I feel like I'm only just discovering it now. We've been here for 2 1/2 years, but I've only had the GS since last May (in rideable condition). The old K75s was soo very wrong for this area. Every road seemed to end in yet another dirt road (passable, but not fun on the K). Since getting the GS, everywhere is a good place to ride and explore. Very very cool place to live and ride.

Parking a GS on an Amsterdam sidewalk

On my way back for a trial ride on the new 1200GS in Nijkerk, I went back home but needed some special tea - lapsang souchon formosa - from this quaint little store in the heart of the Red Light District. Since space is at a premium, I parked my 1100GS on the sidewalk in front, less than a meter wide:

In the future I'll do a whole ride report of Amsterdam, when I find a place to store the pictures...

My mini ride and a report

Took off up a favorite back road, not sure exactly what type or length of ride I felt like doing. I noticed a gravel forest service road that I hadn't seen before and turned up it to do exploring. I immediately saw some really nice single track trails climbing up off the side of the FS road into the unknown (sorry no pics of the single-track stuff). They ended up being a small network of trails leading around and through a timber cut area...typical but these trails were a particularly nice find.

cont.

After exploring for a while in this area, I went back to the Forest Service road and continued up. Lots of fun power-line access roads and old overgrown side roads and plenty more to explore for another day.

not even a mini ride

After a weekend of working on the homestead, just had to take a little ride this afternoon since the weather is perfect. Hit some local backroads, riding some to the end just to see what's there.

Came home and threw some steaks on the grill:

Then just sat on the porch with a glass of wine

No more than 50 or 60 miles

Another mini ride report:

march 14th, Zuid Limburg, the southernmost area of the Netherlands, 110 km
allroadride, which I created for my lovcal dealer on occasion of introduction of the gs1200 on march 13th.
Because some of my friends lost the route on saturday, I guided them for the
part they missed on sunday, and we made some action shots...

Laugh Spring bookend ride.

When I read an article by Max Burns last year, where he talked about "Bookend Rides" that opened and closed the season, I thought it a very apt observation. Though I continued to ride, I had one last fall that fit the description. Nice day, good trails, just had a lot of fun.

Today was my season opener. Been riding for a month now, but none of the rides were my "Spring ride" until today. Just went out in the afternoon, it was in the high 50's, partly cloudy.

First off, I took my boy for a ride. Three and a half, his first ride of the season. Bundled him up, and took some easy backroads and trails. Took him home after an hour, even though he still wanted to ride some more, cause his teeth were starting to chatter.

Swung past Bart's place on the way out, he'd just picked up a KLR a week ago, so he was primed for a blast.

When we first left his house, the original intention was to go 35 minutes down the road to the Northumberland Forest, but as I was heading that direction I changed the plan. We both only had a couple of hours (that family thing sure does mess up a riding day), so I headed into a little area that's only 5 minutes from his house.

It's south of the Goderich-Loomis conservation area. Not a large area, maybe 4 miles square at most, but hidden in it's depths is an excellent little single-track I found last year. Dunno who made it, and all last season I only saw one other set of tracks on it. It's all turn and burn. First gear for his stock KLR, 2nd for AdvR reduced gearing. Slide it in, slide it out corners, clipping trees, and tryin not to get impaled on a stump. Fun.

We did three or four loops of the trail, and it was enough. Killed a couple of hours, having a great time. Only bounced off a couple of trees, too. All in all, an excellent ride.

I now, officially, declare the riding season:

I have yet to find some interesting monotrack trails around where I am and so far I have spent most of my time on long straight stretch of gravel roads...
