Cool2

Sweet Thread! I just read all 16 pages(so much for the Honey Do's).

Funny thing is that I've been shaping some "Fairing Delete Caps" for my big 950 too. I like a Dual light set up that will turn with the front wheels but want a stationary hood & road book holder(That's removeable). I ate 3 trees @ Sandblast (2 @ once), crash worthy ~hoods are not. Terrible thing to destroy those ORIGINAL DAKAR fairngs after so much work & time invested. I'm fabbin' fork mounts for a pair of Lightforce's (Similar I suppose to that of the Baja Designs Big 8'S, maybe lighter though). The Nav package will be removeable via the Neck Stem bolts. This will keep the Road book out the weather for the other 90% of the year I've time to ride but no $ to race. I'd be willing to post a concept or PM ya'll if my idea is not clear. Currently my rig is tore down for service & mods for the 12,000miler & the '09 RallyMoto(tm) Season project Mods I want to do.

My hats off to ya'll in your revival adventure!

I burned time I didn't have this afternoon and got it put a little further together.

All the wiring is correct. The lights and accessories work. All the assembly is good. Before a big trip it needs fresh fluids everywhere, tires, chain and sprockets, and to have another damper mount that isn't bent installed, but none of those issues are urgent for testing.

At this point, the urgent list before I can ride it properly is:
1) Reroute a coolant hose that I stupidly installed incorrectly and burned.
2) Figure out how to put on a skidplate that will protect the pipe somewhat off-road. Options I have: Black Dog 950 plate. 660 skidplate. 525 Flatland plate (thanks GKennedy!).
3) Heal wrist.

All seems to have gone not as well as I'd hoped, and it looks like I'm back to a 510cc motor.

I just couldn't seem to get my hands on a stroker crank, and I'm just not going to fork out the $1,000-1,500+ for a custom built crank. I'm not going to wait any longer, and I'm going to rebuild an engine with OE bits to get the bike done.

In the desert, that's not much of an issue at all. Pretty much when you're at the steering limits, you've likely already crashed.
Just out of curiosity, what is the range of steering from lock-to-lock?

Decidedly ducati-esque.

I used to joke when I had a Monster that they must have big garages in Italy, because it was a 6000 point turn to face it toward the door.

I've nearly run into the side of my house several times turning around in my lawn, it's a bunch of degrees short of a standard bike.

As I recall you had that same issue with the first 950 you rode

If you get it rideable, you can always keep looking for the stroker crank... One WILL turn up. Eventually.

Till then, you have a nifty toy.

Ned and Bruce,
These bikes are dripping with coolness. I suppose there is a Pyrat pocket in that bodywork somewhere? One must be prepared for all contingencies.
Hope to get a close look at one of them soon.

Bruce,

Been keeping my eye out for you on Ebay Germany and Austria as well. Nothing so far, unfortunately. I will be in Vienna in a few weeks, will let you know if any of the KTM mechanics I know have one.

Lukas
