Generally you are allowed two carry-ons, one a small suitcase/bag/duffel, and the other a briefcase/laptop bag/purse. Certainly, if you have one of those things and a helmet, they shouldn't say a word. If you already have two, and they give you crap, wear it and say 'it's a hat'.

Just came back from international travel on British Airways. I carried my Arai in a one of the deluxe helmet bags. Had no issues with security or bag size limits. Some of the ailrliner overheads are shaped different so you may have to rotate it around a bit.

Earlier this summer my wife an I both traveled cross-country with helmet in-hand in addition to another carry-on. On the first "puddle jumper" flight, helmets would not fit in overhead or under seat and stewardess was very helpful and cooperative. We kind of shoved them in corner as best as we could going and on return leg they each were strapped into unoccupied seat
![]() Bigger jets - no issues getting them in overhead.

I keep mine under the seat. Hell, if there's a problem, I'm putting it ON!

On the 29th, I'm doing exactly the same thing ...... I'm flying out to CO, and riding a bike back ...... I'm shipping stuff out prior, but did not want to ship my normal riding gear, or helmet .... and I too was wondering if that was going to be a problem. So I'm wearing my riding gear, and my only carry on is going to be my helmet. I told the dude picking me up at the airport that there's no way he's gonna miss me ...... Later ya'll! G.

Just tell the TSA that you don't trust the pilots.
Actually, I flew from El Paso to Portland and back with my helmet. I still had the bag that the helmet came in, so I put the helmet in upside down, stuffed my wallet, ipod, etc into the helmet, and called it a hard shelled purse. Geof |

Myself and GF both carried some as carry on luggage on a flight from Australia to New Zealand with no issues. No one blinked an eye at it and they fit in the overhead luggage compartment fine.

I travel international between Aus & NZ a lot - carried a helmet back and forth about 20 times.
My experience is only once an officious customs dick made me stow it in the hold. The other 19 times it has been all cool as carry on. The one thing you don't do is ask. If you do they will say no. Carry it on like you own the airline and they leave you alone.

Done it a few times the last three years without any issues. Like Gimmeslack said, the puddle jumpers are a little tough but they will try to help out. Big planes no problem, just answering Q's from other passengers.
G-Funk, I just flew out to Denver last June and rode back to VA on an Airhead GS I picked up, great ride, 16 days and great time. http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=367745

The wife and I flew twice this summer with lids and had no issues (she had a street lid, I had mx and street lids).
