Need Luggage Reccommendations

Hello All,

Joeyb here, this is my first posting after some time lurking. Thanks for all of the great posts, I have enjoyed the pictures and the dialog.

I have finally (after 10 years) bought the 1150 GS I have always wanted. The only trouble is that it did not come with cases. I have been looking hard, finding mixed opinions on all products.

I have looked at the soft bags and the cheap stuff, but after years of saving for the right bike, I dont want to put poor quality or unreliable gear on it. Can you guys give me some input into the luggage you use and/or recommend?

All input is much appreciated,

Joeyb

Caribou........Moderate price, great engineering and superb customer support.....I tried toput Jesse's on my bike and they were very Adam Henry about the idea of me spending 1300 bucks in their shop.......I like my caribous......

Thumb check it out

Consider empty wt of the case system -including mounts. It all adds up to make the bike heavier. Also consider how you will throw your leg over the cases. Some systems aren't too easy to remove or re-mount. The bike takes more room to store when equipped with cases. Also do a search and review them all for water and dust ingress. If they leak, they are crap. Ask owners about this. Do you want sideloaders that allow you to stack someting on top and still access the inside of the case? Some of them let your stuff drop on the ground when you open them, some are better in that respect. Or do you want top loaders? You'll have to dig to the bottom for heavier items. What about your exhaust? High pipes and side cases are at odds and there are trade-offs. Some systems seem to deflect heat to cook the left turn signal. Will the case contents be heated up much? How much space do you lose to the high pipe? You can lower the exhaust. Have fun figuring it out for yourself by going to a rally or the dealer and talking with guys who ride in to the dealer on a Saturday morning. That lets you actually see all the configurations, too. It's an expensive mistake if you later decide you got the wrong set-up.
