We truck the bikes 40 miles north of Fort McMurray, to get past the pavement, unload at the start of the winter road and ride about 135 miles to Fort Chipewyan, Alberta; then another 135 miles north to Fort Smith, NWT, just so the guys can brag that they've ridden north of the 60th parallel in winter. You can only ride there in the winter, because there is no all-weather road to Fort Chip, which is on the north shore of Lake Athabasca. The winter road crosses the Athabasca and Peace River delta - the largest fresh water delta on the planet - thus no summer road.

I don't have the full batch of pics yet. Our tech support guys will be loading them on our site tomorrow afternoon. You can see more there at: www.ridenorthof60.ca

This is the group at the end of the ride in Fort Smith NWT. Fort Smith is a gateway to Wood Buffalo National Park, (http://www.pc.gc.ca/pn-np/nt/woodbuffalo/index_e.asp). The Park is Canada's largest, (I think the largest in the world) and is home to our largets wild wood buffalo herd. It's pretty neat to see their tracks on the side of the road; but you sure don't want to hit a frozen buffalo paddy - they don't feel much different than a rock...

This was the high temperature of the day on day one. The time on the clock is wrong, (too lazy to set it yet). The photo was taken at about 2pm.

These are the folks who make it all happen - our support truck drivers. The photo was taken at the Peace River crossing, about 30 miles west of Fort Chipewyan, on the way to Fort Smith.

This a video of the group crossing the Peace River - not very exciting I'm afraid.

Sahara 3

I have the Metzler Sahara 3 on my KLR and I love them. Really good on the slab and can handle 90% of the off pavement conditions I encounter with no problems. I would love to put them on my f800gs but was wary of doing so.

Maybe another inmate with more tire experience can guide us as to your second question; can we put the 140/80H-17 sahara 3 on the rear of the f8???

I was definitely intrigued by this thread and enjoyed the pics.
A couple questions come to mind...

1. How did you get a hold of the bike and what country's license plate is on it?
2. Was it available in Canada when you began your trip?
3. What was the lowest octane fuel you attempted to put into the bike?
4. Did you use the stock suspension and how was it?

Serious? I've been riding to work whenever weather conditions permit this winter, and mine fires without a hiccup down into the single digits (and I haven't tried lower than that).

Any chance you've got water in the fuel system?

My experience has been that the F800GS is in such demand the price doesnt vary much from one dealer to another.

Actually it is not the "wrong" answer. Notice I said "my experience".
When I bought mine last September the dealers were't coming down in price because they didnt have any and the ones coming in were sold before they hit the show room floor.
