Continental Divide Ride Completed
Did the ride 17-31 July, N to S with 2 KTM 950's, a KTM 450 and a KTM 525. (The little bikes bailed out in Gunnison.) All went well with no mechanicals or flats. Conditions were essentially perfect, except the hurricane drenched northern NM and made 2 legs impassable with mud, so we went around. There was a bridge out in NM (another casualty of the hurricane), but I'm sure it's either fixed or you can go through the water without issue. We avoided Lava Mountain by accident; we took a wrong turn by staying on Trail 1878 and ending up in Clancy. The next day the KTM 450 went up Lava Mountain and reported that it would have been a supreme bitch on the 950's, so I'm glad we took the trail we did (which, BTW, was no picnic on the 950, but doable.) We also avoided Fleecer Ridge by design; again, the 450 went down it and his report made us glad we did. In the Great Basin we had thunderstorms that proceeded us by a couple hours so the dust was negligible. There is gas in Atlantic City - go over to Wild Bill's Gun Shop and pay through the nose. But that's OK, Bill is cool. Ask him about day trading if you have a lot of time to kill.
