Wellington Ulysses Ride 31 August

Wellington Ulysses will hold a ride over the Admiral Range on Sunday 31 August. Meet at Brown Owl shops (Akatarawa Road) at 10am and ride through Martinborough and over the Admiral Range to Gladstone.
Will meet up with a road rider group at the Gladstone Pub for lunch.
You're welcome to join us if you wish to - especially if you would like to find out more about the Ulysses Club.
Cheers,
Ken

Hi Ken

I would be keen to do this but I am supposed to be up at Rotoiti this weekend.

A couple of questions:
How old do you have to be? (I aint 50 till Jan) to join.
Do they do adventure rides as well as road rides?

cheers

Mark

Hi Mark I might even do this ride which is over that road we did with you last year, so sorry you won't be there. Ken will know I haven't ridden with Ulysses for a while now, been too busy, but hey nothing wrong with comebacks.

With Ken having a DR650 and others having dirt bikes this probably will mean more of these rides I'm hoping, else I'll have to wheel the VFR out again.

40 is the joining age for Ulysses as a junior member and you become a real member at 50. Crikey I joined 12 years ago, doesn't time fly.

You still enjoying that new bike?

Hi Merv

I thought it might be the same route you led us on - I had a blast that day. The klr will be ideal for that sort of ride - just a lot slower on the gravel bits. I'm furiously trying to get everything sorted on it so I can take it the Rotoiti for the weekend -bike shops got it at the moment re-greasing all the bushes and bearings and lengthening the gear lever (my size 12 mx boots don't fit).

BTW Hows your brother?

cheers

Hi Mark
Merv said it all. Yes 40 is the age for joining the Ulysses Club. The Wellington Branch is great - lots of opportunities for bikers to do the things they enjoy be it social or riding.

We are having these gravel rides every second month on the last Sunday. Come along sometime - you'll be very welcome. And yes ... the Admiral Range is a blast.
Cheers,
Ken

If I can get out of whatever tasks have been assigned to me on Sunday I'll try and make it. I'm qualified on age and I have a KLR650, same as Marks

Sadly he is deteriorating and will never ride a bike again as he is just not up to it any more. Memories are good of all the rides I did with him over the years including about 5 day trips last summer. I keep visiting him to do a few things with him but biking just isn't one of them. Cancer is a bitch coming out of the blue and biting like it does and its now five months since he was aware he had it.

Hi Stephen
Yes I believe so. I am not sure of all the place names but I have ridden this road many times and always enjoy it. We'll come out at Gladstone and meet the road-riders for lunch at the Gladstone Pub.
Cheers,
Ken
