Merge thread?

Good news, I'll do it next week.
http://advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=881569

"Running between Clifton Hills and Birdsville, the Inside Track runs past the Goyder Lagoon and is very vulnerable to flooding. The Outer Track, now the more commonly used road to Birdsville was made to provide a less flood-prone track between Birdsville and Marree.

"It is not a 100-kilometre an hour road but around the 70 kilometres an hour you could travel at and you will get there safely." Said Diamantina Council spokesman Trevor Stewart.

"There's a lot of history and it is a really nice drive through there."

As always, plan and research your route carefully, and contact the Diamantina Shire Council for up-to-date information regarding track closures."

all the times Ive been up the Birdsville, the inside track was only open once in 2004 , it was a great ride with much better scenery than the main track and much better riding. If its open do it while you can as its often closed

From todays Westprint email....

Roads and tracks updates.

SA Desert Parks.

Good News. It's been a long time since so many tracks were open. Innamincka: Coongie Track, Walkers Crossing Track, 15 Mile Track and Access to Cooper Creek, Cullyamurra Waterhole, Burke’s Grave, Bore Track North all open to 4WD.
Old Strzelecki Track, Bore Track South – Closed.
Lake Eyre: Halligan Bay Track, Level Post Bay Track – Open to 4WD.
Simpson Desert, Warburton Crossing open to 4WD. The K1 track may be difficult to follow due to limited visitors over the last four years and good 2010 rain. Please use caution.
Not so good news. Use caution along the French Line as a group with trailers have recently cut up the track.

Great news: Birdsville Track - The Diamantina Shire Council says the 145-kilometre section of the inside track has reopened for the first time in several years.

Has anybody recently done the inside track, rig road, k1 line to poeppel corner?
If so, what is the condition, how long did it take, what tyres did you use?

Where are we again?

Hi, we went via K1, Rig road in June this year from Poepell corner, K1 is pretty straight forward just got to watch washouts as you travel along the salt lakes.
The Rig road is not all easy going, the blown sand on top of the dunes was softer than the QAA line, we did not have any trouble with the QAA but were stuck a few times on the Rig road.

On K1 heading to Rig road, got caught out a few times with washouts, easy to damage tyre or rim.

Start of Rig road, soft blown sand and drop off on eastern side.

Top of one of the dunes.

The clay capping made it easier on most dunes but where this has washed out it was harder than if all sand.

Some nice country though especially as you travel around the edges of salt lakes, I have a lot of respect for the Simpson not quite as easy as I had thought, I definitely hope to have another go in a couple of years, this time heading east though.
Have a good trip.

Thanks for the update, we're leaving start of Oct, early starts & pull up when it gets too hot.
Hope to read a few more reports in the mean time.
Still a bit to do on the bike.
BTW nice set up, how did the camper trailer go?

Where are we again?
