You want my advice? Buy the bike in Australia, and get your skills up. Ship to S.E. Asia and ride until you are boxed in by politics, which will happen in either Thailand or Viet Nam. Then fly the bike to maybe Vladivostok. Ride Siberia, Mongolia, and every country you can get into whose name ends with "stan" (which should be all of them except Afganistan- where you don't want to go anyway (and maybe Tajikistan- and maybe Turkmenistan). Then Iran, Turkey, Syria, Jordan, Egypt and as much of Africa as you have time and money for. East side if you don't speak French (it's probably safer too).
I've done all that by bike and plenty more. By comparison, Latin America is pretty boring (not that it sucks, I just like the other stuff much better). You could do all that in a year without pushing too hard. Start after school ends so it's not to hot in Australia, get to Siberia, Mongolia etc. when it's not too cold (summer). Middle east in fall and Africa for the dry season. OK, I think we are done here.
