Great pics and commentary Garry. Good on ya for doing the Burr Trail. I knew you'd enjoy it.

I hadn't done the ferry at Lake Powell. Your pics of that area have made me put it on my to-do list.

Was thinking that would be a great place to do a camp ride thing sometime
The ride to the ferry was really cool too, more gravel switch backs going up the big mesa!

You ride too slow, for not long enough, stay in hotels, and are on the slab way too much.

Other than that, great report.

Just kidding. I need to check the other thread to see how the leg is and WTF happened! Karen told me about it and I'm still wondering just what the heck you got yourself into.

Good job and thanks for sharing. Glad you are home safe- relatively speaking.

Now I know this is only a bit of piss-taking, but ol' Garry can actually get quite a hurry on when the mood takes him. Get him to tow you along the Fairfax to Bolinas Road at some point and you'll see what I mean.

Thanks Garry, great report and fangs for the mammaries... I think we've been to most of those places over the years, including eating in the same restaurant at the Bluff end of the Burr Trail. It looks to me like you also rode up the Mokee Dugway, although I don't think that specifically got a mention.

So when are you coming over so that I can tow you around some of my favourite roads....?

I was afraid you would rear end me
Next summer if we can swing it, although someone was talking about taking a ride tour in india to the Himalayas? That peeked my interest a bit

oh and yes we did go up the mokee dugway, just didn't know that was what it was called. thanks! 261 is a blast! OMG!
"
MOKEE (MOKI, MOQUI) DUGWAY
SAN JUAN COUNTY, UT.
The Mokee Dugway is located on Utah Route 261 just north of Mexican Hat, UT. It was constructed in 1958 by Texas Zinc, a mining company, to transport uranium ore from the "Happy Jack" mine in Fry Canyon, UT. to the processing mill in Mexican Hat. The three miles of unpaved, but well graded, switchbacks descend 1100 feet from the top of Cedar Mesa (on which you are now standing). The State of Utah recommends that only vehicles less than 28 feet in length and 10,000 pounds in weight attempt to negotiate this steep (10% grade), narrow and winding road.
The term "mokee" is derived from the Spanish word moqui, which was a general term used by the 18th century Spanish explorers and settlers in this region to describe the Pueblo Indians they encountered and the vanished culture which had left behind the numerous ruins they discovered during their travels. This term continued to be used by the Anglo pioneers, who moved into southern Utah during the 1800's, and their descendants.
Today the standard term used to describe these prehistoric Native Americans, who lived in this region more than 1000 years ago, is "ancestral Puebloans". It is based on present day Puebloan tribes' and archaeologists' beliefs that these people were the ancestors of the today's Hopi, Zuni, Acoma and Rio Grande region cultures. You may also see them commonly referred to as the "Anasazi", a Navajo word meaning "enemy ancestors"."

Keep me posted. I've been helping out a bit in the BMW dealership in Dundee so I might be able to arrange a bike for you.

My neighbours are just back from two weeks riding in the Himalaya and they had a complete blast. Only downside is they're now talking about selling their SV650 and Hornet 600 and buying Royal Enfields......
