Pissed You say gas, I say Petrol - either way it ate my dash!

Just a short note of warning...

I filled Lazarus (I call Bluey that now, following the return from the dead) the other day (Fish is there a record for the most confusing sentence posted?).

The nozzle of the petrol bowser (gas pump :-) was crooked and some of the petrol came out sideways and splashed my dash. Being a good boy I immediately washed the thing with lots of water but to no avail the fuel marked the whole area with runny milky stains.

I've tried to polish them out with special black plastic polish. No joy.

Seems kind of dumb to have the plastic that is near to where the fuel goes in fuel-allergic? Another example of Cherman-design?

Be warned. I've got to buy a new dash!

I LOVE THIS BIKE the ownership expereince has been so rewarding. Then I ride it and fall back in love with the bitch!

Its a bit like closing the gate after the horse has bolted... Using an Ultraviolet plastic conditioning supplement will protect not only from sun fading, but the occasional I SHIT MY PANTS at the bowser story!... The Moral, always use protection before you blow (fuel) Sorry- had to add that one!

My wife's RT had something similar, white marks, not sure where they came from, but the fix for us was to use Mother's Back to Black and some super super super ultra ultra fine milar backed polishing paper (higher than 1200 grit and it has a clear back).

I sanded it wet very lightly using the the Back to Black and the marks went away.

Armour oil and lots of it let it soak in that will hide it but you have to keep on using it.
Also that stuff that Moot gave works well too ( thanks Moot) I bet you thought I would not try it

Stained Dash

Bummer!
I read about this a while ago and fill with petrol very carefully to avoid this.
If you search a few of the RT boards you'll find some references to some cures. I suspect that they are all patchup jobs.
A new dash will probably cost an arm and a leg but I couldn't cope with the stain either.
Your trusty Lazarus deserves the attention.

We don't keep records for that, since a new one would be set every few minutes in the asylum

I've heard that gummipflege works well for that. I haven't tried it, but I saw a bike where it worked really well on sun-faded black plastic.
