WARNING! Tire shredder on I5 N between Mountlake Terrace & I405 Exit
So...on my commute home this evening I was just cruising along on the I5 Northbound in the HOV lane. I started to merge over through traffic around the Lynnwood Transit Center, heading for the I-405 / 525 exit. On the last lane change noticed that the rear was a little sluggish.
"Maybe it was just those turtles on the road, or something else" Now I get to the nice sweeping left hand that dumps you onto the 525. 60 mph, lean over... "Oh, that feels funny" So...a tire shouldn't feel that way. Slowly backing off the power I can only imagine what the rear tire looks like. It's almost totally unresponsive and is squirming all over the place by the time I get to the end of the exit. 30 mph now. "Please, just let me get off the highway" Off the 525 and immediately onto Alderwood Mall Parkway. I knew there is a nice wide shoulder and some trucks to park between at the end of the exit. ![]() Total damage? 13 separate punctures in the rear tire. 13! What the hell did I run over? A spike strip? ![]() In the past few weeks I've noticed lots of other cars pulled over with flats around that area too.

I got my flat somewhere between 405 and Northgate. I just assumed it was because that guy ran me off onto the shoulder and I picked something up there, but maybe not. That was about a month ago though.

Damn Spokane Street Viaduct and 4th Ave S got my KLR when I had it about a month or so ago now. Nail from a construction site - about 4" long!
