I looked at the MSR and REI tents above, but ultimately went with the Northface Tadpole 23 and love it:

It's listed as a 2-person tent but that won't happen unless you're my girlfriend. By myself it's great as it is small and relatively light and it offers a nice amount of space for me and my gear.

Note: I also looked at other options like hammock tents (even borrowing a Hennessy hammock for a test-drive), while they're extremely small and light I prefer just a bit more space.

I am new to camping so I have not tried many brands. I have this one and can say it works great I have been in the rain two day's straight and dry inside. This thing sets up in a minute and does not pack too big.

I am 5'9" but the Eureka Backcountry I has enough room to stow a helmet at the end without invading my sleeping space so I suppose it will be long enough for a 6' guy. You can get them from Campmor for about a hundred bucks. You can spend two or five times as much and get a tent that is small, light, easy to set up, will keep you dry and doesn't blow down. Add to this that the Backcountry I (and II if you want a little more room) has a very short pack size.
+1 on the Backcountry tents from Eureka. Reasonable price, works well, and packs small.

I'm 6'3" and am very comfortable in my BC2. When I went to Campmor (I'm lucky enough to be a long walk/short ride from them) looking for a small tent this one stood out, particularly as it packs to about 5"x15" before compression.

That's sounding like a theme. The Hubba Hubba was on sale earlier in the season, so I'm just shopping for the best price. I'm really impressed with the Mutha Hubba I have.

The Mutha Hubba packs to 18x8, while the Hubba Hubba packs to 20x7, so I'll have to go measure my bags. Best price I found is $225.

I've got a Hubba Hubba and I think it's great. It packs really small and is very quick to erect.

That's my choice. The Odssey II bags have a max length of 20" so it will fit, although I usually carry the tent on the luggage rack anyway.

Bought it with the footprint for $265 delivered from Allthingsoutdoors on eBay.

Eagle Nest Outfitters hammock system is always my first choice IF...the weather is decent and I don't need a lot of storage room.

As for a good nights sleep, I have yet to beat this hammock. No need for a bulky pad/mat either since you are not sleeping on the ground.

You do need two trees or I am currently experimenting how to attach to the motorcycle (R1200GSA) and one tree with my arse about an inch above the ground

When the weather gets nasty or I need storage room...my Sierra Designs Clip2 has worked great for the last 15 or so years.

Hell, now I want to go pack the bike and go camping....later.

I started backpacking 30+ years ago and have had several tents. I'm not going to throw a bunch of names and models at you. The thing you have to decide, is how sturdy do you want it, and how easy do you want it to go up.

I prefer a tent with at least 4 poles. This gives the tent stability in a storm. I've owned tents with 2 poles (square domes) and they're not that great in the wind.

Also, I prefer a tent with clips as opposed to sleeves. I don't have the patience for sleeves (nor the eyesight any more). This also helps if you get a late start setting up your bivy site for the evening.

Todays models are great (mid-price range and up). They all seem to do a decent job of what they're supposed to. Oh, one other thing, get a footprint for whatever model you decide on. It will save your tent floor from rocks, sticks, and critters, and save your gear from moisture coming up from underneath.

It's a little pricey but it packs small enough to get inside a Zega case. It is also a single wall tent, the fly is incorporated into the design.
you suck, now I have to buy another god damn tent. that 10x7 pack size has really got me. Yes I know bibler makes one that packs to 6x9.

Just returned from a 30 day ride, 26 camping. About a quarter of the time in the rain. The 3 Eureka 2XTA Pinnacle Pass tents were quick to set up (important in the rain), and didn't leak. The high buck Bibler leaked like a sieve. In the morning it looked like a kiddie pool with a Thermarest floating in it. Speaking of Thermarest, I bought an EX-PED to replace my Thermarest. It takes up less than half the room and is twice as comfortable. I love it.

I got my 2XTA from Amazon for $119 plus a rebate from Eureka.

Nemo makes a great tent but I would shy away from their tents with those blow up poles. I had one, and really liked the pack size but the poles leaked and I returned that tent. Having said that the fabric is awesome and breaths well for nearly no condensation even when it is raining.
I have a large Exped brand tent even for solo camping, as I wanted a tent with plenty of storage for both my wet and dry gear and a place to cook if it rains.
I got mine here http://www.moontrail.com/exped-andromeda.php This site has photos of all their tents for easy comparison..YMMV

I'm a big guy - 6'0, 240, and I really like stretching out in my tent after riding all day. Hotels are good, and I'm the first to go find a beer and HBO every few days, but when I'm camping, I don't want to be cramped. I use a North Face VE25 - it's great. Completely waterproof - this photo was the morning after three days of heavy rain (in the desert) and I was high and dry. Very nice.

One more + for the REI HC. I had a Hubba Hubba before it and loved it, but i like the improved ventilation with the REI. The fly has 2 roof vents to allow for better airflow which is critical in the south east where condensation in a tent is a problem. And if you EVER have a problem with the REI you know they will stand behind it and exchange it/take it back.

If weight and size are a still a problem with the HC consider the Quarter Dome T2. Quite a bit lighter and packs a few inches shorter. I set one up in a store the other day and it was really nice.
