You can't buy good adventure bikes like this in the show room.

BMW should re release this bike ala: Moto Guzzi and the V7

Picked it up yesterday.
Motor is sezied.
Swapped a XR650 underseat tank for genuine panniers and rack, and a good exhaust on the same day.
Purchased an R80 block (80 2 V C 14 850086) at work (motorcycle wreckers) sacked from said wreckers same day.
Purchased Steering head bearings and Diode Board ($70)
How do I interpret this engine number?

Any links, tips, advice appreciated as I am commencing a full rebuild.
Just looked at your bike on the completed listing on ebay again,
I think for the purposes of this thread the number of interest is this number
VIN 6252043
or last 4 digits '2043'

my VIN is 2171
if I understand it correctly mine was 128 bikes after yours on the production line.

I am guessing that in non-matching numbers bikes like mine, we should be quoting the frame VIN number rather than the engine number? Solo Lobo?

I don't have any of the paperwork for about 20 of these G/Ss. Down to 3 personal g/Ss and just started building a retro of the original late '70s G/S prototype with the dual shock swingarm.

Beemerguru,

What bike exactly are you talking about? late 70s dual shock??? not a six days I presume. Maybe the early 80s dakar Auriol one??....similar to the one i am building?

I only have two...!

One is destined for reverting to original spec,
while the other will give up some parts in exchange for "Special" attention - HPN tank, improved springing and rear shock, solo seat, luggage rack, etc.

While I'm busy, I'll be riding my daily commute - an '09 12GS !

Stock G/S exhaust pipe/muffler wanted.

Stock G/S pipe wanted.

OK, I know this isn't the parts wanted section, but I'll give it a run before the moderator kicks it off................

Does anyone in Australia have a stock pipe for an '81 G/S laying around in their garage gathering dust ? I have a Staintune two-into-one (low pipe) currently fitted, and I'm happy to swap for a stocker if someone has one spare. Also happy to buy one outright. My Staintune is in good nick- could do with a polish, but no dents and generally fine.

Incidentally, I'm in the Blue Mountains, west from Sydney.

Cheers

Martin
