Here is ours.
Vin # 6256100 first registered in Switzerland 1982. Now lives in Canada, so do we.

1988 14 months trough South and Central America Two Up. Built my own massive panniers, added second shock off a 125 Kawa somewhere in Argentina. Welded in some brackets and had it mounted parallel to the stock one. Worked great for over 40'000 KM.
42 Liter Heinrich Tank, Wudo fairing and low front fender.

Now sporting a P/D tank which we traded for the Heinrich tank with a guy in Guatemala.
Just over 100K km on the bike now.

I look at them sort of like you would look at your boots or coat. They are like a pack of dogs and each has its specialty.
If I am on a long tour with few gas stops, I would pick the Fat Dog (the 1982 G/S) which has the 12 gal tank and big tourtec panniers.
The ST would be chosen if I have a passenger and we will be on mostly pavement, or just because I love the ride.
If I am going on a rough boulder hopping, gumbo mud ride either the Bloodhound or the Texas Catahoula Dog (81G/S's),
I had a couple of them converted to 1000cc and it sure makes a wonderful upgrade.
I used to raise a specialty breed of sheep and got to loving wool sweaters. the old wool sweaters make great seat covers as I hate sitting on Naugahyde... gives me monkey butt. Nice and dry in summer and warmer in winter.
