Hey VH, welcome back to G/S ownership!

To bad you didn't wait a bit longer, you might have been able to buy mine
Thanks Solo. I wasn't really in the market but this one caught my eye. I'm glad it did, I didn't realize how much I missed the G/S until I rode this one home from California. I have an '87 R80 as well and think that the 800cc is the best BMW boxer motor ever. I'm glad to add a G/S to the mix.

Is yours for sale, or soon to be? Don't! Trust me, I did that (and you put a lot more into yours).

160K! I wondered, runs like a top though (thanks Ted Porter! His shop did the heads in 10/2010). If 160K is correct, it's now up to 176K. I purchased from the guy (Les) that Charlie sold to, that makes me owner #7. Thanks to Les and Charlie, I have the paperwork from 5 of the previous 6 owners. The seat is now a solo seat w/ rear rack from BoxxerParts.

A pic from the purchase in May 2011:

Sometimes I DO miss her. Sounds like she's in very capable hands. One thing that really pissed me off about all the work I did to her was having spent a bunch of money having the heads gone through just 1000 or so miles before Les had to have them re-done. Apparently the shop I used had used some inferior parts and Les had rather quickly started to have valve recession problems.

It may be, but only if I get the 160k+ mile, one owner, garage bound R80G/S project I have my eye on....

Yeah, definitely not the wheel & fender we're used to seeing on these girls. Frankly, I don't know if this is the way it came from new, but I sure would like to know. The handlebars that were on it were R90S (based on the part number). I have to assume either it had been wrecked and rebuilt with different parts or (as some have suggested) a street front end was an option then. Can't get any info from the seller or my dealer.

The fork looks G/S original. I'll bet a body just wanted a nice street oriented bike and swapped the wheel, fender and bars.

The results look pretty nice.

Thanks Lobo. Posted earlier, apparently got lost in another thread. Been told not ever to use the kickstarter (altho I have tried). Bad for the tranny.

Ok, it looks like first release was Avignon in Sep 1980. Awful short notice, I'll be gone part of Sep...

The literature says first production was 1980, but I have yet to see an '80 model. Mine was made in Jan of 1981.
