5 Days in Tasmainia. October 13th - 18th

Day 1:
Bought a K1 BMW on Fleabay.
It was located in the Hobart suburb of Moonah, in Tasmainia, Australia's Island state.Good excuse for a holiday.

Flew from Canberra to Hobart.Saved $ by getting bus from Airport ($16), the bloke took me well out of his way to drop me 2 blocks from bike pickup point.
As i'm walking down a strange road I hear the distinctive sound of a BMW Brick motor via Staintune.Nice.
The owner dosen't see the guy walking in leathers with helmet, and accelerates away.I follow.

The owner turns out to quite a nice bloke, running his own business (Makes Badges etc), gives me the rundown on the K1,he is investing in a nitrous kit for his ZZR and wants to go try it on the salt.
Have to post the K1 seat hump as girl arrives on 14th (also flying in).
Cruise into Hobart for lunch @ salamanka place, few nice eateries, some overpriced too.
Ride out to Marion Bay,via Airport and Sorrel (some causeways on this section - watch out in heavy winds)
Found accomodation for $75 @ night for the whole house, booked for 2 nights.Pelican's Rest Accomodation 2a Pelican Place,Marion Bay.
Dumped gear and rode down to Forestier/Tasman Peninsula's.
Apparentley this is where BMW themselves bring their bikes every few years to test out the new models (gospel from Servo guy @ Dunally)
Was a windy day, rode out to Litte Bay nature reserve (dirt)
Back to Marion Bay by nightfall.

Day 2 : 15th Repeat as above, picking up girl @ airport @ 12pm
Fish and chip dinner from Dunally shop.
The shop lady told me "never sell that bike, its beautiful and its a BMW"

Day 3: toured Port Aurthur, former Convict Penal Settlement.
Convict ruin's,boat tour (but you cant get off to see "attractions" (Isle of the Dead") unless you pay $100. Sorry mate $30 is all i'm paying.
Ghost tours also, some freaky photos on display with "real" ghost's.
Memorial to the 35 people killed buy a lone deranged gunman
(all headshot buy an untrained individual)
His name is never to be mentioned.
Cruised back to Hobart, out to Huonville, took a chance and stayed @ Huonville Guesthouse,Fench guy own's the place, ride's a cruiser, has a 22 foot yacht, gave us $10 off cause "we bikers stick together"
Fairly upmarket rooms, (if the girl wasn't there would have stayed in the pub myself)

Day 4:
Torrential rain,snow ice etc.
The big K1 was spinning and drifting all day, ride to the conditions boy, ride to the conditions.
Down to the Tahune Airwalk, Big forest trees 80m high, you walk on a metal gantry 40 meters above the ground for some 600meters.
Stayed again @ Huonville

Day 5:

Leave Huonville.
Up the East Coast.
Moto Museum @ Bichieno ($9 entry)
Fish and Chips @ Swansea (over from BP servo)
Chick @ servo pretty grumpy...
Continue up East Coast, nice beaches, holiday homes
Turn off towards St Mary's
Head down, arse up to Launceston, Motel again.

Day 6:
Out from Launceston North west to Beaconsfeild.
This is where the famous underground rescue took place.
There is a mine museum.
One of the guys who was rescued is now the local realestate guy.
Onto Beauty Point, there is a seahorse farm,(the girl was keen to see it)
I sat and watched the video while she went on the tour.
After this we left to go to Devenport and get the ferry back to the Mainland (Australia)
Riding back towards Launceston, turned off @ Exeter, going north west, this section to Devenport was some of the best riding of the whole trip - Bloody Windy though!!!
Caught ferry, boarded @ 6.30 after lining up @ 5pm.

Day 6: Night Ferry Crossing
Wicked trip on ferry, met some (real) fellow travellers.Few beers, plenty of laughs, chilled listening to young guy on guitar in bar.
Good quality cabins, cost bugger all with bike.$30 for a feed.

Day 7:
Invitation buy fellow motorcyclist with R90/S (with over 1,000,000km's)
to his place in East Gippsland (Victoria near Bairnsdale) leads to a steady ride up the highway (east) from Melbourne,Straight run really from ferry.350kms
Dump stuff, into town for beer and grub.
Another night of merryment, good tucker, good company.

Day 8:

Bairnsdale to Cann River.Main highway, all the bikes coming back from Phillip Island Moto GP had brought the Highway Patrol out in force.Unmarked cars (x3), followed buy a marked cruiser for 30kms.
Fuel @ Cann River, scored a GP poster at servo (pays to ask politely).
Cann River to Canberra.Nearly was taken out from behind buy some complete idiot doing 200 km/hr plus in his XR6 Falcon. He missed the car coming towards us by inches..........

Made it back, girl loved it,now preparing for next mission,
got a job @ a bikeshop (add out of the paper) day after I got back.

Cheers, if you want a cheap holiday take your bike to Tasmainia mate!!
