Good video, looks like you guys had a fun ride. Gives anyone who hasn't ridden the jeep trail a good idea of what to expect (where's the big rock garden? ). I think the last 4 or 5 times I rode it from the BRP down, good practice braking on loose rock scree about 3/4 of the way down to Coal Rd. - "Aaaggg, I'm going over the side..."

I road my mtn bike up that trail last summer. Was thinking about taking the Tiger up there again, but that would be stupid, even more stupid that mtn biking up it.

Looks like a great time! Maybe when/if I pick up a cheap DR400...

I haven't been up that way in a while. Almost feel confident enough to go up that road on my own ... almost.

I never seem to be able to get out for a ride in the mornings, and it's hard to find a riding buddy on a weekend afternoon.

I'm confident enough too, but smart enough not to.

IIRC it's about 10 miles from Coal Rd to BRP. A busted ankle about halfway would make for a long day if you were alone...

Where was that crossing at the beginning?
The crossing at the beginning has a bridge option but we rode down beside the bridge and just before you get to coal road. Maybe DZ will remember the name of the road. If he doesn't chime in, I will ask him. Very fun crossing because if you don't take the right line, you go deep!! I didn't get the whole video of Phil almost swimming. It was really funny!

Yeah I would never do that ride alone. It is very rocky and easy for anything to go wrong but super fun. I am always game to go ride it. We met up with someone riding it alone ... He did Shoe Creek to the top of the jeep road and went down to Coal road. I think that might be harder because I usually prefer climbing over downhill, but will have to try it sometime. Doing both the same day would make a good day for sure!

Ok, that's Howardsville Turnpike, aka 610, at the bottom where you get on Mt Torrey Rd. Gotcha.

Great looking road. Reminds me of Blakey Ridge. Was most of the video the Coal Road that goes over the mountain? Or are those the GWNF roads around Sherando? Thinking about riding the 950 around Sherando.

Yes - Blakey Ridge doesn't have the big rocks this road has, but fun too. Most of the video was the jeep trail off Coal Road that goes over the mountain and comes out at the Blue Ridge Parkway, but I enjoyed just riding Coal Road too - helping me learn to get a little speed on gravel. I'm still too slow . Just need lots of miles!

That used to be my "go-to" place when I had my 690E! I've done it alone quite a few times but i guess that wasn't all that smart.... Great MTN Bike ride as well - back in the day we rode it that trail all the time!

I did that one by myself a while back cuz I ain't that smart. Got lost looking for the bus up top and ran into this dude with some big knives and a bow-and-arrow. I had to stop and chat because I knew his arrow was faster than I and it might penetrate my back armor..........at least that was how my imagination was working. He helped me find the correct route to the bus (isn't that gone now) and was a very nice guy. So lesson learned on this adventure, not all weapon wielding men in the backcountry are out to kill you.

This bike knows that jeep trail by heart, guaranteed* to come out in one piece, you'll be perfectly safe, really.

*guarantee - if it breaks, you get to keep both pieces.
