You'd better believe we'll do more Dave - I'm counting on it. Several members of 'the gang' are doing D2D again next summer. I don't know whether I'll be able to make that, might have to stick closer to home next year, but I'll be there if I can. And even if that doesn't work out, you and I will do what we've already spoken about....

Wow Squonker, nice ride. Haven't finished your RR yet but this picture caught my eye - woops can't paste it (from Oct 10). It was the photo of what appears to be multicolored apartments in Inuvik. I have not seen above ground utilidors since I lived in the far north of Alaska. Brings back memories of cold winters. That NWT license plate is very cool

I had got a little ahead of myself there...before the main D2D festivities began, a few of us went up the famous Dome Road to check out the view. I know that JuneauDave, Sanderd and I went although I think there were others with us, and when we got to the lookout there were 4 or 5 bikes already there. Can't remember the names of the 4 or 5 other riders now...sorry, guys. You were all super nice, if that makes any difference!

Thanks Pelayo - your comment is all the more appreciated because it was your first ever post on the forum. You certainly chose a very good thread to start out on ! Thanks for posting, welcome to the forum!

The previous night we'd all stayed out too late and drunk too much, so that evening I managed to stay out of the bar altogether. JuneauDave had done the same thing, but Spicy and Sanderd had gone on a girl hunt and used Spicy's camera to take a bunch of shots that Mrs. Spicy might not have been all that keen on. But not only did we all have photos to look at the next day, Sanderd had gone and got himself a date too. I guess our 'KLR corner' at the campground must have got itself a bit of a reputation because at one stage during the night a couple of bikes rode up and, seeing the Ural, one of the riders shouted, "Where's Spicy? I hear this is where the party is." With much-admired restraint, a voice from Dave's tent informed them that Spicy was out on the town, and some of us were trying to sleep.

The next day was D2D day proper. I didn't take part in the poker run, so for me the beginning of the festivities was the dinner. Shit, I already posted the pics from that...ok, here are a couple that I don't think I posted yet

There was an old woman who came around the campground every morning to collect recyclable empties and take them in for the deposit. That morning when she appeared someone told her to come to 'KLR corner' because there were loads of empties there. I'm not sure why this was, but can only assume that other revellers were depositing their empties in our camping spots in an attempt to tarnish our otherwise squeaky clean reputations . (And if you believe that they weren't our empties, I have a bridge for sale...)

When she turned up, we asked her to pose for a photo:

There were probably about four of us taking her picture, and I asked her to give us the ADVrider salute. I didn't have the balls to demonstrate what that was, but I described it to her and she was horrified. "Oh, I wouldn't do that - that's rude. You wouldn't do that to me, would you?" I said that I wouldn't, but that I'd do it to any of the other people there...

Ok, I'll go and try to upload some more pics. I'm currently at the second most northerly permanently populated place in the world and the internet isn't always that great. But you shoud see the views....

Oh yeah, we've got quite the little email chatter group going on with him. He's somewhere in Mexico - his map shows his latest is down near Loreto. Probably hooking up with some beautiful Mexican woman, trying to learn the language...!

Spicy - EXCELLENT shots! When I get back home I'm going to have to get you to mail me a CD with them all on. Pretty please?? Feel free to post whatever you've got, it can only add to my story as I trundle along...

And Mac, other than the email-back-and-forth thing that a few of us have going on (Sander included), I haven't been directly in touch with him since we joined forces for a few days on Vancouver Island. That'll be part of my report, so stay tunes...and there'll be questions later!

Guys, I'll be adding pics from here at Eureka onto the ice trucking thread in the next little while. You have to see this place...

Just got off the phone with the SO and she told me she wants to do AK for her 65th BD, so I may be in Dawson City for D2D in '09!!! On a Gold Wing with a Bunkhouse trailer packing double. No, I am not going to do the Demster like I did in '99.
