I'll be stuck at work. The gravel roads to the south of
Northfield are interesting.

Any advice?

I went to transfer the title on the new to me Trophy and the DMV lady says she needs the engine number. Easy enough, I think to myself. Get home, check it, and, SHIT, I can't read the damn number. A Google search tells me I ain't the first one to have this problem.

What I tried so far:
Pencil rub
Magnifying glass
Wifes eyes

I've got a vauge idea but there's an "S" that could be a "5" and a "6" that might just be a "G" and a digit that resembles an "N" then there's that one I think is an "L" but is possibly a "1".

I dont know how bad it is but I have used a cell phone camra (nice smart phone with a 8mp+ camera will do) use the negative "effect/filter" and turn on the flash then take a VERY VERY steady picture.

It worked just enought to pick up some of the lines off the numbers/letters I couldint make out with my young eyes.

You might have to play with the lighting.

Hope that helps!

I'd like a CRFX too, damn fine offroad bike.

I get to leave work 18 minutes early tonight!

What the hell is going on this weekend?

Take a shop towel lightly oiled with WD40 and wipe it. I have found that really highlights the numbers.

I had to do that to read Barnyards BMW engine number.

Or I could come and read it, although I prolly won't now.

Gravy, offer him PIE. It's written in his native language so he may be the only bloke that can help you.

Call Pat Simmons at Crosstown Cycle. He knows how to decipher VIN #'s so he can tell you if something should be a number or a letter.

He's also a hell of a good guy and I like his shop.

I am doing the moto-marshall thing at that 1 triathlon in Oak Grove tomorrow. Might even ride to Gravy's and see if I can help cipher the engine number.
