Funeral and Dirt Bikes

Friday night was my Grandfather's wake and the funeral was on Saturday, we were staying at my parents house. The services were great, saw a lot of family I have not seen in years, and a sweet old man was laid to rest. RIP Grandpa B. It was his time to go, everyone knew it, and so only a few tears were shed. He can be with Grandma B again. The local VFW Color Guard was there as Grandpa was a WWII Navy Veteran, and they were excellent, 21 gun salute with M1 Garands and an electronic bugle played TAPS.

In the afternoon on Saturday and then again on Sunday the shenanigans began. It all started with my oldest son on a Honda 70, and I on a KLX140. The dirt (mostly dust on account of the lack of rain) was flying. When it was time to put the 140 away, the real fun began! Out of the shed and weighing in at 80cc's and fighting out of the red corner was the 1985 Yamaha 4 wheeler. Who knew you could ride wheelies on a really old little 4 wheeler with no suspension!

My son and I had a small incident when we met head on while riding the "south 40" trail. He had a little bit of panic and failed to apply the brakes. I put my feet down and started pushing backwards as fast as I could. His front tire rode up the front tire of the little 4 wheeler while I was still using my feet to push backwards! His eyes were the size of dinner plates , but he managed to keep it up right!

A few more laps on the trail, a few more flattened corn stalks and other plants, we were rubbing the dust from our eyes. A good time was had by all. Now to find a big bore kit for a KLX140, some stiffer suspension, a pumper carb, and a pipe! The old statement is true, "it is more fun to ride a slow bike fast, then a fast bike slow"!

The youngest son really likes rides on the 4 wheeler as well, not just the little Yamaha, but the 350 Griz as well, and wanted to ride all day. I see a little 4 wheeler in my future

TLDR...............

Hey! That sounds a lot like what I've been doing the past few days. Oh, wait...

It was a sad but fun weekend. A Good Man laid to rest; motorcycles and 4-wheelers ridden; beer consumed; good food eaten; tears and laughter shared.

You'll need a couple of 'wheelers, I think. And, if you're buying the big-bore kit, go for it!

Now to repair the sod and grade the driveway...

Some funerals are really paradoxical for me. By the time my Mom passed in February, I had made my peace with her and had a nice time doing so, was sitting with her when she went and then had plenty of time to bawl between then and the funeral.
So funeral rolls around and I'm so happy to see some people I haven't seen in a couple decades. What's wrong ? I'm smiling enjoying the time and they are just getting hit with the reality of it all I guess. A few of those people really influenced me as a young person and all I get is an hour or two ?

Yeah ... weird

R.I.P. Grandpa B

Friend of the family was sick as can be *%*%% cancer. He decided no more chemo this time is it when the Dr said chemo might give him 6 more months.

So he makes it a but longer than the 6 months some days are good some days are bad and his birthday rolls around and that was on a Saturday and he had a good day so everyone came over to see him for the birthday party. Monday morning he dies. During the funeral everyone said how nice of him to attend his own wake.

Nice !
Yeah F$%^ cancer..... that was the same situation with my Mom. No more chemo or nothing on third round. It's like she had it all planned out and it worked. She was good like that, everything planned right down to the second. (So why am I a procrastinator ? Maybe I'll find out tomorrow)

She had a nice last 2-3 days with everyone hovering around and visits with the grandkids then next day with just me and my brother there and.... "I'm out"

Her last words to me: "Did you write it down?" re: her meds/morphine. Moms...... sheeeesh.
