First it starts with black ice forming when the snow starts to fall, next comes drivers who forget about black ice, then comes the first spin out that blocks a lane or two, then more fast drivers until someone hits the spin out. Then comes flashing lights and the next thing you know, the snow is falling hard and the plow can't through because some morons blocked up the road. Repeat all day.

Oh yeah! I forgot that. And probably a whole lot of other factors. I am just glad I can telecommute when it's bad.

I learned to take my laptop home every day as soon as laptops became a thing. Never a need to take PTO if you can work from home.

This was quite the spectacle this morning near Forest Lake

The lanes closest to the camera were clear and in the span of the 9 minute video were white again. That was definitely a CF. The whining noise in that video is good for a hearing check or to drive your dog nuts.

The next time it's supposed to snow early during a weekday, I propose everyone stay home and bake pies.

The Snow Plow usually has a dump on the back that lays down salt or other solutions. There is a point, I think around -5 f where salt no longer works to melt ice. Compared to a lot of places, Minnesota does a very good job keeping roads open through inclement weather. This just happens to have been a heavy snowfall in a short period of time right before morning rush hour - the trifecta that grinds everything to a near halt for the day.

The news coverage of the commute was good. We had a lunch meeting. Back on the east coast of sconnie.

Salt is bad for the trout in the streams now. Think about the trout!

I had an interesting commute the other morning, when a full-size van started sliding sideways towards me at a pretty good clip. I introduced my Jeep to the adjacent sidewalk and the moran missed me by 15-20 feet. Fecking black ice and fecking morans.

Just one snippet on the subject
