78 Honda CB400 Hawk Hondamatic

I have a friend that just inherited one and wants to sell it. KBB list its value at about $995. Is this right? Is this a collectible because it was an automatic?

Any input would be helpful.

I own 2 1978 CB400's. One is the "Hondamatic".
Both were valued last Friday at $700 by the Department of Licensing, here in Washington.
I really doubt I could get $1000 for either of my bikes but in mint condition they could go up to $2000, I'd think. However, there are collectors out there and a lot of people had these as their first bikes back in the day. Many want one to re-live the days of their youth for cheap....I know because that's me!
I'd say that if his bike is in mint condition then he's got a lot of money on his hands. If it's in "normal" condition and runs/rides right, he could get $1000 pretty easily.
Tell him to throw it on Craigslist or eBay and see what he can get.

That is exactly the same as the CB400A I just picked up. I've stripped the paint and am getting ready to paint her in the next couple of days. Flat black, of course.
Now, if I can just find a nice tractor seat for it......
