Please allow me to rephrase, Most Grunts dont like air wingers due to their HUGE egos about being the tip of the spear, backbone of the corps. I know first hand, I used to be one of those guys then I was pinned (I mean it was coming from everywhere) down in the Al Anbar Province during Operation Spear and I can honestly say with out the air wing, I would most likely be dead right now. Not only did you guys help take out the badguys with the Cobras you were even nice enough to bring in the 53's to a near by LZ and give me a ride back to the FOB. From that day on I said I would never say bad things about the wing. We are all in this together. Im headed to Afganistan in may, Gonna save up a few bucks to work on the ole DRZ. If you even come back to HI let me know, we will get together and ride.

See that Mountain back there? That's Mauna Kea, plated bikes can ride all of the roads and firebreaks, no plate? then you can only ride about 65 miles worth.

Trying to get spousal approval for another bike, if it works out I'll have a ride for yah!

Talking I'm Here Too!

Just found this sign in post for Hawaii Riders.

I just moved to the Big Island from Oahu, and I am getting my KLR 650 shipped over.

I am seriously contemplating getting a new KTM 530.

What are others riding?

Junkie- Thanks for starting the thread! It will be great to make some inter-island connections!

This is what I was hoping to accomplish with the KTM 530. I think I got dusted off the line by a DRZ while riding my KLR. How are those to maintain?

And, I would give credit for the scooter, as long as it is DIRTY!

Plated '07 WR250F, my second WR, had a very nicely set up DRZ400 simple to maintain, long (relative to the WR) maintenance intervals, heavier than neccessary for the places I like to ride.

What do you do on Sundays? We're clearing trails for the next Mauna Kea 200, bring a sharp machete and join us!!!

Honestly, I cant answer that because all I do lube the chain and well thats about it. Oh yeah I change the oil sometimes. Ok once. I owned it about 4 months now.

Awe man. That sounds like a lot of fun! I am pretty slammed at work for the next weekend or two, but I would really be stoked to come up and help out. When is the Mauna Kea 200 (how much longer will you be cleaning trails)? That sounds like something I don't want to miss either!

The weight you mentioned about the DRZ is what is driving me to the KTM. I am a little hesitant because I am not really familiar with whats available to ride here (and I am kind of new to motors off road- lots of mountain biking and highway motors).
