I mean I can understand a Domminator doing 60mph/100kph as they are old school air chilled???
Well since this post I bought an available Transalp and been having fun..... but the whole Tenere thing was niggling inside, especially after a mate bought a 92 model. It wasnt any slower on the roads than the Transalp and far better off road. So one came up, and I now have a97 twin headlamp model
Would I be correct in thinking its a 3YF 4MY model ???
Also I looked for a new front sprocket and found a spares site here in UK who had it down as £87 !!!!!!! Why so much for OE when I can get a sunstar for £20. Is there a need to run original sprockets, like I do on Hondas because of output shaft wear caused by poor quality aftermarket stuff ???

Anyhows I guess running them side by side will give me all the answers I need to which one I prefer hey

I'm sure there will be shops in uk with cheaper sprocket than that. Try search for site called offtheroad.

With a bit of work the ten can be much better of road than it is standard. I've done heaps to mine but I like fiddling with it

Not quite sure re codes. Most likely 3yf. You will find they are pretty much the same from 91 to 99

I'm sure I only use aftermarket. I'm no expert but my under standing is that the good quality steel to last. Meaning avoid cheap sprockets but I doubt it will be as dear as what your talking.

Best to start withy bike is over at tenere.co.uk
http://www.tenere.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=824
I also have some stuff in this thread and the Aussie tenere thread. Both threads are a long but good read. Lots of different ideas and fixs to diff problems. A site specific google search is also very useful

... the XR is the greatest off road motorcycle ever constructed. There's nothing it can't do, hasn't won or will not outperform.

Exactly right. Very little done to it other than a few decals, paint and a new addition of a metal topbox (not pictured). Seems to be a VERY well known bike in the area. An absolute dream to ride.

To all fellow XTZ660 early owners if you need to rebuild you engine in Oz look at the US as the YFM 660 Raptor has the same emgine as the XTZ.
I just got a intake valve for $28 delivered to Tassie, the yamaha part was $79
