7124 In:

No pic at the moment, but 7124 was built on May 6, 1983. I'm the 2nd owner. Have all the original papers. Was mint and had 20kms (12k miles)on it but 6 years of storage was not kind. has become a mild G/S-tour mount.

Nice mod Danomoon, thought about a more sporty direction for mine also, and it still may happen. Looks like an R65 tank on there now. Really want one of those....anybody? What bars are those? Was the deat done locally?

Those look like the BMW S bars. Still available new from any dealership. Just ask them for the "airhead S bars" and they should know what you're talking about.

That's a clean looking bike, for sure!

My gas cap doesn't have that seal around the gap between it and the tank - Is that par of the cap? Or does the seal attach in the tank recess? (My cap was beat to crap by a previous owner, doesn't lock and has the upper & lower parts pinned together so it will screw on and off).

And for Kevin: I noticed on the first page registry, my ST is listed as an 82. Probably my error when I posted it. It's actually titled as an '83 with a build date 10/82.

It's cheap and available (item 4 in this page from the IPC)
Sort of a hard-plastic thingy... easy to manipulate with some heat gun preparation.

Thanks. It's a great bike.

I just replaced this seal with a new one last week. Still basically has the same gap. I called it "seal" but it's really just a plastic cover. The new one came with a lip/ridge that I clipped into the groove on my cap. Now it fit's loosely. I tried it with it not clipped in the cap groove and it was tighter than the old one (the one in this pic above). To be honest not sure which way it is really supposed to fit. It is certainly different to the one I was used to.
The old internal red seal under the cap gave way so I replaced that one and figured while I was at it why not replace the top one too. Probably should have just left that one alone.

Cap Ring Seal

The new Ring around the gas cap fits into the groove of the cap
and seats tight.

I just purchased an '83 R80ST from an Airhead in Dolan Springs, AZ. I now have the bike in Kingman, AZ, but it spent the last several years in Las Vegas. The previous owner did a great job maintaining the bike, although the paint job is maybe a little too "Thunderdome" for my taste!

Odometer broke at around 40K; previous owner estimates total mileage to be a bit under 75K.

Hey, if you're going to step outside the comfort zone, might as well do it with gusto...

Awesome!
