It was 5000 feet up (that's high in Australia !) with views 50 miles to the ocean . The "grass" is actually dry moss.

Loving the 80ST
I love projects that take twice as much effort as should be needed. Should be an Airhead motto. (disston)

Here is a new one
#7320
Titled as an '83, I just bought it from the 2nd owner with 55k on it. Has been sitting in his back yard for 20 years. It was singed by fire when his garage burned last March. It had the transmission rebuilt by BMW just before he parked it. Needs work on everything, like any barn find. The fuel tank is beautiful inside, and only has one ding on it. It will take a while and some $, but he offered it to me for $350 so I took it! It is my dream bike...

Thanks, Wrangler.
I really like the freedom people express in personalizing their rides, as well as those who like 'em closer to stock.
I favor the original ST look, and will keep that (small tank/ low fender) and maybe add a Hans Muth 1/4 fairing. It would probably help more if I got a brake master and a seat first...
...and waiting for warmer weather to see if the engine turns or not.
p.s. I am a noo-oob and can't seem to load my pics out of my trial version of the pic hosting site.

Thanks! You can see in the first photo that the fence it was next to caught on fire when the garage burned. So the brake reservoir is partially melted, and the headlight lens is heat fractured from the fire department getting there and dousing it with water. The wiring and everything else seems to be fine. Unfortunately, the PO had put the side covers, seat and Krausers in the garage for safe keeping.

After a couple of years looking on and off for another R80ST (bought my first one 22 years ago), I think 've just got a beauty.

That's about as clean as they come. I couldn't tell from the photos, but are the aluminum castings painted / powder coated or just blasted clean?

Neither, the previous owner told me it was just hours of work with petrol and a soft wire brush. It's an absolute credit to him, I'm really over the moon with it.

"I think I've just got a beauty"

That, my friend is the way to buy 'em

Have someone else do all the work

You've got a fine example of a tastefully restored and upgraded R80ST

Particularly like the front and rear wheel paint

And the dual front disc brakes

And the polished stainless fasteners

One of the nicest bikes I've seen on this site

Hope it provides many enjoyable miles and smiles
