Does anyone have a none working (bad) oem type CDI or two that they don't want any more. I'll gladly pay shipping. PM please. I have an idea that envolves hard wiring (soldering) a cable directly to the pcb and potting the cable to the CDI (no flex). Then adding a new connector to the pig tail and harness. Figured I better practice on a bad one before cutting my good ones open.

Well.....THAT looks more like it !

Any communication from Ohlins about the difference?

How was the communication with this company? Seems like once a company's reputation reaches the "almost religious" status they get a bit smug about taking care of an individual order for an "obsolete" bike.

Here's a fun one for everyone to chime in on.

If you could paint your TA any color, as long as it looked good with the original decals, what color would it be.
I currently am thinking about a new paint job, and I think going original is just redundant. I want something fresh and new.

II'm very interested in what everyone thinks.

Cheers

Both Ohlins USA and the vendor have been really easy to work with. Communications tend to take a bit longer due to time differences between their US and Swedish operations and then of course shipping time but thats not unexpected. Other than my bike being on a stand for a couple weeks its been painless.
They are looking into one more question for me now regarding the spring rate. I'd do business with them again in a heartbeat.

Don't they have a warranty/service/distribution center near Asheville?

I decided to just go with the OEM CDI boxes and get them through BikeBandit, I figured that would be the only way they would have a chance of them arriving today before heading out to dirtbike this weekend in the mountains. I wanted to take the TA to test it out and ride it for the first time in about 6 months. My gamble paid off and they just walked in the door!!! I will be sure to beat them around on as rough of terrain as possible and report back. I just need a rear shock, a skid plate and to tie up a more than a few loose ends. It might be hard to say exactly how many miles they last though, since in don't have a speedo cable anymore, or a tack, or any sort of instrument panel or odo.

Kevin, as far as color, I still think locorider has one of the nicest looking ones out there with his red. It is a Honda after all. His skidplate made from a sign is pretty cool too.

Personally, I'm leaning towards primer grey on mine for a while though, or maybe just gelcoat white and a little bondo pink for accent.....

2bold2getold- I might be interested in letting you try and cut my bad one(s?) open and fix them. But I would also prefer to get them back and beat them around on the trails, to give them a good solid test of course, if it works.

I'd probably try to recreate one of my two KLRs:

I facing the same question but I might go entirely without decals of any kind. The coolest looking paint jobs I've seen on a TA are probably these below. I'm not sure if the red and blue are original colours, but they look good.

Or this one if you don't like the only-one-colour theme

I like the minimalistic look without stickers and different colours on all the parts. The TA is an almost unknown bike here and I like to get a good laugh when people have to ask what the hell I'm riding

At the moment I'm trying to decide if I'm making an all blue or all red bike. No decals or stickers anywhere.

I wish you all the best with your project

Silly question time!!!

Is there a helmet lock on the 2009? I can't find one, so I can only assume that there isn't one.

Did you look under the seat for some hook-like object?

*Under* the seat? No, I didn't look there. In all of the bikes I've owned, the helmet lock has always been on the left side above the rear sprocket.

But I'll check. Not that it'll be very convenient if that's where it is. I'd have to take off the top case before even accessing the seat. Bah
