What exactly are you wanting to do? Basecamp is garbage, but map source is very easy to use.
If you are trying to do everything with the gps unit itself, then I would be the wrong guy to help you. I do all my routing and tracking on the PC and transfer it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Todd, I'd be happy to show you what I know about MapSource (I have no experience with Basecamp). I have MapSource loaded on a netbook and have experience dropping waypoints and drawing tracks. I live 20 min from Bloomington and am in town several times a week. PM me and we can set up a time and place and I will show up with the netbook. Brad

Just throw that damn Garmin away and ride. Those things are pure junk. They are the most unintuitive device known to man. Do what I do. Read your map the night before, then go ride your route.
VFRPilot is the resident route-whisper in these parts. He must be some kind of rocket scientist I guess. Of course he rides a BMW, that has got to have something to do with it I bet.

I guess what I want to do is learn the basics of GPS use. Currently I've only ridden in familiar areas, and would like to follow other tracts to explore. I also know quite a few cool places myself and would like to share them with others.
I've never had things line up to the point of going to an organized ride but this is going to be a priority in the near future, and I would like to be at least conversant in GPSese. Thank you to all offers of help, maybe we will meet out there some time Todd

This might be helpful: Guavadude posted some great information on converting Google maps to Basecamp in Layin' Down Tracks. One way to get there is click on "Search" and type in "Google Maps to Basecamp Tracks/Routes for Dummies". |

Hi guys...
My name is Ryan and I'm near Peoria, IL. Last summer I took the MSF and put over 1,000 miles on my buddy's Nighthawk 750 (the best friends are the ones who let you ride their favorite bike all over Illinois). Since then he's decided he will sell me the NH so I'll have lots of time this summer to get into trouble on it. Frankly, at 6'0 290lbs I probably look pretty comical on the NH but that darn thing hauls me around like a champ. I was originally looking at the WeeStrom and will probably add either it or a smallish enduro like an XT225 to screw around on in the next couple of years. Look forward to swapping stories with you guys; see you on the road. |

I am going out tomorrow. I am thinking of slabbing over to the Danville/Cayuga area and exploring that part of Indiana. May end up in Terry Hoot and drop in at the KTM shop there. Nothing set in stone though. I got no route planned just gonna go free ride.

Skip that coffee and let's waddle 3 miles on the trail. Then we can tag along and go riding with BBF.

I missed the rain all day as well, but not the mud. I slabbed it to Danville on 74, actually exit 4 in IN. Rode back roads all the way south to Terre Haute staying east of the Wabash River. Then I basically back tracked my route, switching it up a little. Rode a lot of dirt roads, actual dirt with turns. Got my pretty KLIM gear all dirty. 288 miles total. I can ride it again whenever you guys want to go. I got the route all laid out in my John-min GPS. ![]()
