Xt600!!!

Confession: I'm a lurker on Central Illinois but I had to put my $0.02 on Gamequeazy's XT600, AWESOME BIKE! I had a XT500 back in '79 and it was a blast, a wheelie machine! I'm not as familiar with the 600 though, did Yamaha finally put an electric starter on the bike? Even with the compression release, the 500 would kick you back every once in a while. I recall stalling it in a stream once and my wet boot slipped off the kickstarter and it blasted my calf so bad it brought a tear to my eye.

I remember going through this type of starting drill. Thanks to electric start it is just a dim memory.

Thanks! I like the looks of the 500's. After something like 1990 they did (the xt600e) but I'm not sure if they had them in the US. They didn't come with a backup kickstart mechanism however.

My decomp is a little goofed up, and until I figured this bike out I broke a couple of kickstart bosses. Nowadays it's usually the 2nd kick cold.

took the bike up to Chicago today for a Japanese car meet, made sure to park it next to all the stretched sportbikes.

Got a lot of pitying looks as I thumped along on 294 in blinding rain, haha.

After some risky workplace google-fu, I believe this is what you're looking for http://www.lonewolfexpeditions.com/twat.html

Pontiac Oakland Museum

A great place to visit.

This car was better than new

You will have to visit the museum to see the rest of the car.

Some pics of the roads

Trip to garden of the gods and little egypt

So I decided to take my first motocamping trip, and it happened to coincide with my first trip to a real offroad park. What fun! It was actually the first time I've gone solo camping, funnily enough.

Ready to ride. I have since learned that carrying all of that shit on my back in a huge backpack is both dumb and stupid for many and more reasons. Working on rigging up better storage currently.

Backroads.

A stop at dairy queen turns into a "let's strip the bike down" stop. Stuck carb float. Note the big puddle of gasoline beneath the bike.

The culprit.

Nice sky.

Into the woods of Garden of the Gods.

Iron Furnace.

Super friendly people here. Actually, pretty much everywhere. Met another inmate and his son here, they were rocking a black and red Ural sidecar. Sadly, my helmet-cam was dead at this point so I didn't get any photos/video of them. I struggled with that thing dying repeatedly during the coolest parts of the trip.

After a fun hill-climbing section, along with coming very close to dumping it off the trail into the dropoff on the right.

A fun little lesson on strapping things down correctly.

Dumped it pretty hard here. Gimme a break, it's my first day!

Oops.

Apply boot liberally to the affected area as needed until symptoms subside.

Having a good old time. I definitely had to get yanked out there, learned about my limitations as a rider here haha.

Filthy and loving it.

A ride report isn't complete without a rainbow pic, now is it?

You're not a Quad rider man, don't behave like one. How many times do I have to say it people. LINE SELECTION, LINE SELECTION, LINE SELECTION!

Great report. Now go power wash that pig.

The PEORIA TT was canceled today, but will move to July 14th' Pick out some tracks and ride up for a day of TT racing. Ride up Saturday, we may have trials that day, Racing on Sunday.
