Hi!

We just got in yesterday. We have over 1,500 photos and 80 pages of notes. We will begin posting as soon as we can get some of our stuff sorted out.

DAY 1 ON THE BIG YELLOW ADVENTURE BIKE – Sept 6

This was to be a different type trip. One in which we slowed down and smelled the roses, so to speak. There was no specific day by day objective, just hit some of the National Parks in the northwest and be home in a month. We planned to stop and/or detour any time we saw something that we thought we might want to see. Have you ever been riding down the road and see a sign pointing to something of interest and think, I wish I had the time to take a look at that? Well, we are planning on stopping and taking a look!

I have passed this sign at least 50 times in the last 20 years and have always wondered what was at the end of the road. It is on US49 between Helena, AR and Brinkley. Today we went and found out!

It is basically a raised board walk extending for several hundred yards out in a swamp to the main “marker” for the Louisiana Purchase.

There was a lot of information on the purchase as well as info on the swamp itself.

Well, one 20 year mystery has been solved! What’s next?

You do have to make sure you get out in time! Those gators might get you if you stay after dark!

From there we headed toward Pine Bluff on US79 and then on to Malvern, AR on US270 where we took I40 to Greenville, TX. This 300 mile of Interstate was about half of all the Interstate for the entire 29 days! We arrived at to our daughter’s house in Frisco, TX after having ridden 469 miles for the day.

Sheryl’s View Of Day 1

Headed to see Tracy and Andrew. Donnie has always wondered what was at the end of the Louisiana Purchase sign road. Now he knows! There was a nice display of information on the walkway into the swamp area. Lots of mosquitoes! We got to Frisco, loved visiting with Tracy and Andrew!

DAY 2 & 3 ON THE BIG YELLOW ADVENTURE BIKE – Sept 7 & 8

We spent the next two days visiting with Tracy and Andrew, her husband. Tracy’s birthday is Sept 19, so we were having an early birthday before continuing our trip.

Sheryl’s View Of Days 2 & 3

Tracy and I did a little shopping; there are so many neat places to shop in and around Frisco. Tracy and Andrew recently got a wii so of course I had to try it out. Forget baseball and tennis, I am no good at them, but I did like bowling and carnival games. We had a hard time getting Donnie to play but he finally did. I always enjoy playing with their 2 Maltase dogs-Emma and Chloe, they are a lot of fun. Hate to leave but it’s time to continue our adventure!

DAY 4 ON THE BIG YELLOW ADVENTURE BIKE – Sept 9

We left Tracy’s at 9:15 and headed west on US380 toward Decatur and then north on US81 to Bowie, TX. We are not headed to California, but I guess the folks before us were!
