Father and Son Head For The Redwoods..pics, video, and lots of rain
My youngest son and I packed up for a few days ride to the Redwoods. We have both been looking forward to this ride for some time. Elijah, my son, was so excited he was like a pinball getting ready, it was great.
![]() This trip will prove short but very eventful. Weather, gear, animals, and at last, my first water crossing. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Had to stop at one of my jobsites and check on the guys. ![]() Okay, now we're on our way. Sure hope they keep working while I'm gone. ![]() Cruising through Astoria we noticed this cruise ship. Come to find out they were on their way back from Alaska. ![]() ![]() The Oregon coast sure is beautiful. ![]() ![]() And we just had to stop at the cheese factory. I loooove squeaky cheese. ![]() Gotta go for tonight. I'll post more tomorrow night.

Subscribed...I love these father/child threads. Great to see Dad's out with their kids. My Dad and I had some rocky times and aren't particularly close today but I remember every minute we were out together like this when I was a kid. Great memories in the making for you both!!!!

I have a few minutes so I'll try to get a little farther on the trip.
After the cheese fest we headed down the road. In Depoe Bay are we saw a cool view point and thought we would get a pic. We ended up seeing a couple whales, sweet! Couldn't catch them out of the water on the camera but you can see the spouts. ![]() ![]() ![]() Couple more pics from the view point. ![]() ![]() Heading down the road, around sundown, we were getting close to Coos Bay. I felt something hit my leg. (I got a sweet comm system before the trip) I asked my kid what he was doing, he said nothing. I looked down to see what it could have been, oh crap! where's my phone? We flipped around and this is all I found. ![]() Everything was closed so this is what I used to call home. ![]() Gotta go. Dinners ready. Be back later tonight though.

Glad to see you making memories with your son. Too often we get busy with jobs and such, forgetting about the really important things

man, my wife can cook! Good thing I do construction too or I'd be fat as a cow.
Where was I. Coos Bay. I was on duty the day before and didn't get to bed till five AM. Getting tired and I need a phone. So Best Western here we come. ![]() ![]() We ate in. ![]() Good boy, finish your homework before we stay up all night. ![]() Elijah entering the address for the Verizon storeinto the GPS. ![]() Man I hate buying new phones. Even more I hate being so dependant on them. ![]() So, more Oregon coast. We woke to rain and it pretty much never stopped. ![]() ![]() Found this prehistoric display. Interesting but to wet to walk through. ![]() starting to get hungry. Pizza sounds great. And it was! ![]() ![]() Seas were pretty rough. I'm on the surf rescue team here in Ocean Shores. This would be fun except for the rocks. ![]() ![]() Found Paul Bunyan and his ox. Crazy logger actually talked to use for a while. Pretty funny and BIG. ![]() ![]() Made it to our campsite in the redwoods, Prairie creek to be exact. ![]() ![]() After setting up camp we went for a ride. Saw this elk in some guys yard. ![]() ![]() ![]() Finally! I got my water crossing. four actually. Eight if you count them coming and going. Nothing huge but fun. ![]() ![]() I am trying to post a couple videos of some elk but am having a little trouble. Be right back.

So after our elk encounters we headed back to the campground. The visitor center was pretty cool. Should have taken some pics inside.
![]() Starting to get a little cool. Better get a fire going. ![]() Good job! ![]() Whats for dinner? ![]() At least in here we're dry. ![]() The next morning brought, you guessed it, more rain. ![]() It started raining so much we had to eat breakfast in the tent. And last nights dessert. Ice cream sammich, boo-yaa! ![]() We finally packed up camp and went on another scenic loop. So much rain my camera started getting wet. Pics start looking funny through a layer of water. ![]() ![]() This is inside the base of a tree. totally hollow and big enough for Elijahs whole football team. He plays half back, in case anyone wondered. ![]() And we haaaaad to go through the drive through tree. ![]() This is Winchester Bay, OR. I've ridden in the dunes here when I had a sand rail. To rainny to even get off the bike. ![]() So around Lincoln City my wife and kids met up with us. Both to give us a dry place and to spend some family time together. As much as I hate trailering the bike, I have to admit I didn't mind to much on this one. ![]() Drying the gear. ![]() Elijah loves to cook eggs. ![]() This ain't to bad. We even had wifi. ![]() Heading home. Wet, but a great trip. Thanks for sharing it with us. Watch for Elijah's older brother Kalebs' trip to Death Valley in a couple months. And maybe a few short trips in between.
