R.I.P. Antonio Cobas
"Biaggi’s crew chief Cobas dies
15 Apr 2004 Max Biaggi’s influential crew chief Antonio Cobas has died after a long illness. The Spaniard was 52 and was technical director of Biaggi’s Camel Honda MotoGP squad. Team boss Sito Pons said: " As Technical Director of the Honda Pons team, Antonio will forever be remembered for his kindness. He has been a true companion to me for more than 25 years and I shall miss him immensely. " The fondness with which he will be remembered will lift the spirits of the members of the team to which he dedicated the best years of his personal and professional life. " Everyone at Honda Pons wishes to pass on our condolences to his wife and children at such a sad time. " " I would like to take the opportunity of thanking you all for your support shown to him throughout our time together. " The loss comes on the eve of Biaggi’s biggest season ever, which starts with practice for the opening MotoGP in South Africa tomorrow." Cobas was a certified genius. He was the first to use the aluminum twin spar concept of chassis design that is employed by every top line sport bike and GP Racer today. He will be missed. ![]()

Mr Cobas was a living legend in motorcycle circles here, both for his vast knowledge and for his personality. Godspeed to you, man. |
