Of course, you guys have a place to stay while you're here.

If you decide to do the ride, I'll lend you camping gear when you get here...no use carrying yours all that way.

Bill was kind enough to send me a DVD of our ride, but I don't know how to embed or upload it.

He had quite a bit of cool video from the old town, and the ride from his perspective.

ride to Windigo

The town you speak of was a school run by a Baptist church org from the states. I was there quite often when I worked outs the Pickle.
This one was for boys from the communities further to the north, all in all it was not a bad place and for the most part good peole running it, but it is still a school in the middle of nowhere being run by people who do not understand the natives and were a heavy driven christian organisation, doomed to failure form the get go.
There is another one further south at Crystal Lake for girls, been awhile since I have been back there so do not know if it is still around or not.
I knew a few of the families with kids there, feeling are mixed, but I do not know why it suddenly was left, maybe the whole native school being settled.
That's all I know, hope it helps some.

Interesting stuff! That clears up part of the mystery.

That one to the south could be on the east... and might explain the guy with the gun... If I found any ADV riders around my daughter ;)

Great report Ron - sounds like a lead on what it was. Love to check the place out some day.

This thread was awsome.....but what happened to the DVD.....up, or download? Surely you've learned how to do it by now?

I'd love to see it.

It sounds like the people who were in that town were told to get out, or else, and went back to somewhere in the States.

So for an update, Crystal Lake is still operating. Not as a girl school but as a religious community of sorts, you know. Some kids from Pickle and surrounding communities have gone there for brief stints in the summer months as a camp of sorts. Stirland Lake is as cool as it looks, I've overnighted there in one of the houses before with a couple buddies. Made for an interesting night I tell ya.

Worth the trip, if you can handle seeing the incredible waste of an opportunity....
